Stop buying stuff to cope with the situation you're in.
Start to learn a skill that is in demand. (Bonus if it can be done remotely/freelance.)
Cut your expenses as much as possible.
Sell junk you don't use/need.
Cut expenses even more.

What do you want, to work the night shift? Be on call 24-7 for operations and facility maintenance, work odd hours so you can't enjoy regular activities that require having a normal schedule?

Figure out how much money you need to live the lifestyle you want and then earn exactly that much money. If I didn't have a wife and kids I could get by on $30k/year easy, could make that working 2 days a week as a consultant or something similar.

I assume you're a grown man since you're posting on the misc so the only thing keeping you in the rat race is yourself.

I don't need much, 30k is in the ballpark of my minimum living expenses

I already exited the rat race, just trying to figure out how to stay out successfully

Write a book about how to be free of the 9-5 rat race.

Call it the 3 hour workweek.

Find a job that isn’t a 9-5 rat race and work towards getting that job??

If your goal was to not have a 9-5 rat race you should not have gotten that job to begin with.

I would love to just go buy some land out in the country and have my own ranch. Unfortunately, that won’t provide much for retirement when I’m 60+, or allow for the adventures I would like to go on before and after then.

So it’s grinding away until I have enough where my investments provide more in passive income than where I’m at now in salary.

Why not just live the way you want to and do what you want to do now?

invest your money until you have enough passive income to sustain your lifestyle. Cut down your desires until you have a lifestyle that is more affordable, possibly in a low cost of living nation if needed (srs)

Babyslayer (George Leeman) has been living in Southeast Asia off rental income from his properties in Florida for like 5 years now

Because like I said, that won’t allow me the means to retire with the amount of money that I need to sustain myself during retirement. I’d rather not be dependent upon social security and Medicare in my senior years.

I don't have enough funds to invest currently, otherwise I would

Considered living in Thailand or somewhere because it's so cheap srs but I'd rather stay here

This. I honestly think anyone can be retired and out of the 'rat race' by 30 years old or so if that's what they want. The thing is it would require minimalism, investing and work from the time they are about 18-20 until 30. I'm not talking 40 a week. I'm talking grinding with a priority on acquiring assets and investments.

Judging from the last 10 years of my life/investing it really only requires about 10 years of hustle/investing to retire or at least partially retire.
