Anyone into synthwave/retrowave?

Started getting into this new genre which I guess it has been out a few years and sort of digging it (beats low IQ nubs mumbling over a constructed rap song)

yeah i've posted about synthwave on here and on miscord several times. when it's good it's amazing, when it's bad it's still pretty good.

the midnight and carpenter brut are the current kings of the genre IMO (honourable mention for Kavinsky for basically kicking it off though. also cliff martinez soundtracks)

Le Castle Vania is my go to right now.

Perturbator and Carpenter Brut are arguably the top dogs in the genre.

Dynatron
Gunship

Are some other good ones.

Huge into this chit.

Have actually traded a few emails with the guy that runs NewRetroWave. He used to make music himself, believe he still does.

For anyone into the vocal side of synthwave, check out:

Michael Oakley
Ollie Wride
Sunset Neon
Nina

If you love guitars, the absolute GOAT synthwave group is Wolf & Raven

Scandroid.

Perturbator and Carpenter Brut are definitely top dogs in the darksynth subgenre, not sure about synthwave as a whole. Dance With The Dead is another great group in that genre.

I believe FM-84 and The Midnight hold that title.

This is one of the most viewed synthwave videos I've seen:

Nah most of it's ****, it ran it's course years ago.

The genre is too limited in sound selection although I'm not surprised it entertains the smooth/wet brains around here.

I'd much rather listen to prog rock, which can definitely be grating at times but at least doesn't sound like the same song over and over.

Not sheriff srs or troll.

If srs, please listen to Gunship and then Sunset Neon and then Scandroid and then Michael Oakley and tell me they sound the same.

If you're talking about the early days of synthwave where it was the same basic kick snare repeat pattern with a cheap vst and effects with the reverb cranked to 11, then yep, totally get it.

The genre has evolved a lot since then.

I casually like this kind of stuff - I mean I like what I hear but don’t know enough to fully explore. Will check out all music posted itt.

Slightly unrelated, the movie The Guest uses pretty much only synth wave for its soundtrack. Pretty cool little film. If you need something fun to watch I highly recommend.
Entire NYPD should go on strike. You'll see then how quickly the mayor changes his tone.

A little into it. I like Gunship and lazerhawk and Kavinsky. Another type I recently discovered is synthwave remixes of metal songs. Hre are a couple:
