Drug overdoses up 30% last year due to lockdowns

https://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-dru...271200?mod=mhp

Almost 100,000 deaths last year to drug overdoses due to lockdowns for the flu. Misc called this one.

So when you combine the increases in:

- drug overdoses
- deaths from alcoholism
- deaths from increase in crime due to unemployment
- suicides

And compare it to actual Covid deaths (not โ€˜dying with Covidโ€™) does this thing basically come out to a wash? Did all these lockdowns accomplish nothing?

But but but we are saving lives! Weโ€™re saving the world!

This is what liberals will never understand; government interference in our personal lives only have negative affects and rarely, if ever, are beneficial in any way

Crime and suicide are both down.

Death from alcoholism takes much longer than a year

If you are going to attribute it, isn't the right metric the 30% up? So 30k "excess" deaths? So 30k vs 600k?

Edit: Not saying this is a good comparison, just saying OP's logic is flawed.

Not really.

People lose their jobs, locked down in their homes, get free money from the government, for a lot of druggies thatโ€™s just an invitation to get blasted then OD.

I don't blame all dope fiends as 'bad personal decisions'. I've had numerous counselors tell me the same story over and over again. Athlete gets injured playing a sport, Doctors prescribed Oxy for even the slightest of injury (definitely pushed by Pharmas to use with even kick backs) and then abruptly cut them off when they are already addicted. Then they always resort to the streets. I put just as much blame on some of these Doctors/Pharma as I do on these 'bad personal decisions'. Again, I'm not saying this is the case for all addicts but lets be real...there is a lot of blame to spread around to these crooked fuks.

Rich people are often physically weaker, the strong is the working people.

And I don't mean rich people as in those who overspend on food delivery.

I mean people who never need to work once in their life, and not because they collect welfare.

I stand corrected. However still well below the 1990s, which miscers glorify as the greatest time in American history.

Even the 30% rise is only like 8k deaths. Comparing it to covid deaths is disingenuous.

I'm sure if you compare covid deaths for people under 40 to increase in deaths from the above mentioned, you'd see more increased deaths from the above mentioned than covid deaths. Especially if you look at under 40 and also not obese
