Any boyos use a cistern system for their homestead?

If so, how big of a cistern do you use, and how long does it typically last you before a refill?

Do you think 3000 gallons is enough for 3 different studio apartments?

No. I'm referring to water districts. But you're in Canada. You might be able to get water from Moose poop up there for all I know.

3000 gallons is not enough water for three households though. I'm an expert because I've watched Homestead Rescue for 8 years.

Collecting rainwater isn't a human right but having a digital ID is, clown world.

OP you can look up how to tap your own hand pump well, but I don't think that's exactly what you're asking. I might get a kit just to have on hand if SHTF.

I know in my area there are lots of homesteads with cisterns, just wondering about volume.

Logistics isnโ€™t an issue as water trucks are plentiful here, however itโ€™s just the frequency of how often it needs to be topped up. Never had a cistern before, always a water gridcel prior

I actually just installed a rain barrel a few weeks ago. I use it solely for watering my garden, would definitely not use it for potable purposes since the water comes down the roof and gutter. It's pretty awesome.

It's a myth that rainwater collecting is illegal. It's perfectly legal in almost the entire country, it's encouraged in many places, and the places where it's not entirely legal, there are only limitations or special permits needed (it's not like you're not allowed to entirely)

Whatโ€™s the expense of going larger (for a system). Is there cost savings to having the truck out once for a larger fill than twice for smaller fills?

I looked at a house with a cistern but never bought. Fortunately we have a well at our current place. Curious for answers though as my parents are looking at a pace with a well that only puts out 2gpm and was wondering if they should get a cistern to complement.

I think youโ€™re low though. Iโ€™d say 5000L per dwelling is a safer low end. So 5000 gallons?
