Something worth noting for brahs into good furniture. Not sure what changes will come from this, especially in regards to the value of the furniture.
Covid fuked up their supply channels, I went into a retailer and was told 2-3 months wait for available bucket chairs in fiberglass (2 colors), and the rest are indefinitely unavailable.

Jesus I figured it'd be high end expensive furniture since it's Herman Miller. But a lot of those couches on Knoll are over 20k....Cheapest ones are like 5k.

It’s an atypical furniture company. Florence Knoll was an architect, and she brought other architects into the fold in the 50s. The name “Knoll” is really just an umbrella for the designers within it. Her contacts included Harry Bertoia, Warren Platner, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (her mentor), Marcel Breuer, Eero Saarinen, the list goes on. Many were known for more than furniture. It’s crazy to see the company bought out, but it’s also nice to see that it was bought by Herman Miller.

Out of my price range though. Although I love my herman miller aeron.

My work had Herman Miller chairs and as much as I like them I have a hard time shelling out $1200 for a home office chair. They are great chairs though.

I think it’ll help expand HM’s presence beyond strictly (95%) business furniture.

Also, Herman Miller Embody chair crew. Absolutely worth the used/pre-owned price I paid for it.

I dream of the day I’ll be able to order a custom Eames set for my lounge room.

Feels brah, I’ve been buying replicas/reproductions for a while at a lower price. About 1/2 of what I have is authentic. Here is an example of the dangers of that though. I bought a replica Saarinen table (real materials like marble and whatnot). Here is how it was supposed to look (my own pics of the real thing):

I told the company that the marble looks off. “Its not a defect, all marble is different”.

If I paid 1500 more, I’d have a smaller, original knoll table:



Point is this-miscers, if you like something, get the real deal. Wait and save if you have to. Copies aren't the same.

Have you ever tried the Aeron? I wonder how the Embody compares to it. I've considered getting another Herman Miller for another office, might switch it up and go with the Embody for the next one.

Thanks brah, it wasn’t a total dud by any means. I gave the company a good review, but their pictures were basically identical to Knoll, the product was a bit diiferent. First world issues. Still, these investments should be lifetime investments imo, and you should get 100% of what you are looking for.

One day I will have a sick little reading area with multiple Eames chairs, bookshelves of rich mahogany and a ****load of leatherbound texts I'll never read

Ah **** I just ordered a orange slice chair from knoll last week. I recently ordered a HM dresser too still waiting for it

The guy at design within reach basically told me nothing on their floor (that I picked) was for sale, and gave me crazy times for delivery on any of them. He told me to go to Brooklyn at their outlet store if I want to buy something I see and like off of the floor. It felt like shopping for a Rolex, except they don’t have outlet stores. I’ve always hated that chit. “Your money is no good here, until you buy a bunch of crap you don’t want.”.

I’ve got 2 Herman Miller task chairs. Cool little chairs to slide around in to get work done. Cheap too on the secondary market

I went to the secondary market first for fiberglass chairs. Ebay has them marked up like crazy, and the cheaper ones are repainted (you can’t easily refinish that to the original color). The “rope edge” is insanely higher in price, even though that isn’t what Charles and Ray Eames wanted for the chair in the first place. Secondary market is fuked for what I’m trying to buy.

They’re on completely different planets, IMO. The Aeron is stiff and prioritizes “proper posture” over all else. The Embody has a ton of flex/movement and is much more comfortable.

I figure I should add pics of original (old) knoll stuff.

I’ve read a lot of good things about the Embody, but tbh I was thinking Aeron for myself. People I work with swear by it. If I could, I’d just work on an Eames lounge chair. It’s the one thing I refuse to buy a replica of.

I think steelcase leap v2 is more comfortable than the Aeron IMO also those chairs you posted above are dope. I picked up some eames bucket chairs for my dining room table recently and am gonna get a lounge for my office soon.
