Investment bros, quick question:
Help a noob out, trying to learn, What’s the catch with something like REM and other 20% monthly yield stocks? And please, speak as you would to a 3 year old, or to a Golden Retriever, it wasn’t brains that got me here, I assure you of that.
Reps for help, I even youtube’d it, but the guy might as well have been speaking Egyptian.

You need to understand their financials, dividend history, and business model in general. If a company is paying out an insanely high yield, that should definitely raise some eyebrows because price should increase to drive down yield as more people get on board at valuations that make sense relative to the payout.
There are games that can be played and that aren’t readily apparent to someone who doesn’t dig into the details. For example, a company could be taking on debt to pay out high dividends or be otherwise engaged in a payout scheme that isnt sustainable, and that could be why sophisticated investors aren’t biting and driving up the price

Destor is on point as usual.
Op, I bought a stock years ago that was yielding like 13%.. figured, hell that’s legit man. Gonna pull down some extra cash.. a month later they zero’d their div and the stock tanked.
Sold at a loss and never received a penny in div. lesson learned for me through the loss
