That's basically me srs. And honestly yeah then sales engineering sounds more like me. I'm not really a salesman

So I guess Sales Engineers basically help facilitate the sale but aren't the sales people? I never heard of that job before but sounds pretty legit srs

its a waste of money. If you want to work in IT and actually make money its a simple route.

set you up a lab at home.

then decide to either invest in some cisco routers and switches and buy the books and get the paper. . if you are lucky you will have a close friend who will vouch for you and open the door for you and get you in on the bottom floor some where

or go the administration route and get your MSCE if that even exist anymore ive been out of the loop a long time

that or learn how to code. thats where the big bucks are but you cant be a paper tech. coding takes imagination and original ideas


network enginering - cisco
network administration - MS


again ive been out a long time but UNIX use to bring in big bucks too. all my IT friends ditched me when i turned into an addict and i dont blame them so ive been out of the loop a very long time.

none of this takes a college bro. i have two IT certs my self. got on my own. but i had that friend and i wasent a paper tech. call and beg someone to give you a chance. till someone does.

It’s not the worst degree you can do. But there is an oversupply of new grads with jobs being outsourced to India at an alarming clip.

A lot of places HR people won't even look your way without a degree, especially if you have no real work experience either.

I feel like the traditional degree route is the most straightforward way to get a job tbh

It looks great on a resume, but you better specialize at something, whether its networking, cyber, programming, data science, machine learning, etc.

Without specializing, you are a jack of some trades in a world that is not asking for that. Way too many CS graduates who are in this pool.

Learn Python because its applicable to literally everything, find what you want to specialize in, learn not to be autistic during interviews, and you'll have a much easier road.

I'm thinking programming or cybersecurity. I know for cybersecurity you need to specialize but within a comp sci major do you have to specialize in programming? I thought that was included in CS degree

You actually need to be well-rounded in cyber as well and understand concepts from a lot of different aspects of IT. Probably one of the best fields to be in right now because everyone is finally pouring money into it…but for you that probably means it’ll have cooled a pretty good bit by the time you’re ready to jump in. Still a good field though, and I’d say much better than programming(that could just be me though….I’d rope myself if I had to program for any significant amount of time every day).

I meant focusing on what jobs you want coming out of Uni, and then focusing on that more in depth on the side of the CS degree. CS is a mile wide and an inch deep. It will have some programming in it, but CS is broad AF.

For example, if you wanna do Cyber Security, focus on getting certs like Security+, CySA+, CCNA, Pentest+ on the side and learn Python depending. If you want to do data science, learn Python + SQL and do some projects on the side. If you want to do Networking, get CCNA and learn Python.

Doing that + having a CS degree will get you noticed

Tbh I probably just want to brush over cybersecurity basics, I'm not sure I want a fullfledged career in it though it would be interesting. I'm probably leaning more towards the software engineer route. Data science/analytics are also interesting

I mean I could see it being worth it if you were to actually apply your degree and invent a robot that could handle toilets clogged by HTC ladies like once she starts screaming for you to fetch the plunger in rolls the chitbot4000 and it says beep boop I’ll flush your poop but then you’d need a plumber friend to invent a better toilet that could actually successfully flush those giant chocolate anacondas so maybe it’s all just an unachievable dream
