I think a 5-6 episode mini series probably would’ve been best.

you're spot on. in fact, i kind of feel like movies are obsolete now. it's so hard to convey everything you want in a 2 hour time block. also, it's much easier for people to sit through an episode of something rather than an entire movie. karate kid and cobra kai is an example of how something is better off as a series rather than a movie. also the fact that sopranos was a series to begin with is like going backwards by making a movie.

I haven't seen too many TV series of this kind (just Sopranos, Mad Men, some anime) but one thing I don't like about it is how things tend to move much more slowly and chug along at a snail's pace at times when certain points could have & should have been reduced.

IMO you mentioned Cobra Kai, and I feel like that could have been a 2-3 hour movie about Johnny's redemption arc rather than a 4-season series (so far) that's resorted to full-on Dawson's Creek *******ry to fill up space. Hell maybe Johnny could have had his own trilogy of sorts like Daniel did.

Don't get me wrong series can be great, but with a series you have more opportunities for the studio to want to inflate the story and drag the series out, make more money, than you would with a film.
