Moral Foundations Test
Admitting up front that this site is kind of a PITA as they require you to register in order to take their test. Of course you don't have to be truthful and can use a spam email address.

Green bar is your score [in this case my score].
Blue for liberals and Red for conservatives.
I would say I identify politically as experienced.
Fairness is for games and sports. Loyalty hinges somewhat on reciprocity. Respect for authority should be measured against competence. And some things are just not right, relativism be damned.

Interesting questionnaire. I like how they differentiate b/w loyalty and authority. I think there could have been additional layers to this study. I think it's completely fine how some people are born into wealth. I don't think we should be viewing people with a large amount of collected capital as a "jobs creator" that can't be touched tho. No way billionaires are suffering when they are taxed slightly more. Their comfort and well being is ensured and that chit needs to be paid for. "Purity" imo isn't quite accurate, I don't approve personally of degen chit, but give zero fuks if madvillainy is banging trannies on the reg. Live and let live, I'm raising my own family and should have the ability to avoid that kinda crap tho when it comes to my kid's education....

According to MFT, human morality is built from five universally available but variably developed sets of moral values: Harm/care, fairness/reciprocity (referred to together as the individualizing foundations), ingroup/loyalty, authority/respect, and purity/sanctity (referred to together as the binding foundations). MFT claims that the evolved moral systems of different groups should be built from the same five foundational values, but that they may be structured differently. For example, liberals should draw on the individualizing foundations of fairness and care when they advocate for marginalized groups, while conservatives and religious people should draw more evenly across all moral foundations including the binding foundations when they preach loyalty to the (religious) ingroup, respect for (religious) authorities, and purity of mind and body. However, insight into these differing moral systems has been limited so far, usually focusing on only mean-level differences between ideological groups (e.g., Graham et al., 2009), and not fully leveraging the possible benefits of a multidimensional model of moral beliefs.
https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10....46167220916070As best I can make out from a quick non-SME skim the study found that liberals had a larger difference between individualist vs. collectivist values while conservatives were more balanced in weighing both types of morality.

See, I think that your comment on purity is where the super vague comes in for me. There are no examples and it doesn't mention legality or anything. So my line for disgust and yours may be the same, or may not be. Some people might hit disgust with things that fall under "consenting adults/MYOB" and I wouldn't put stuff like that in the Purity bucket even if I'm personally baffled by it or grossed out.

This looks accurate to me
Edit:
No idea how to link my graph
Scores:
Harm = 2.3
Fairness = 2.3
Loyalty = 3.8
Authority = 4.2
Purity = 4.5
The only score I disagree with is the harm one. I think it's cause of the harm a defenseless animal question. I mean yeah that's f*cked up but the question said one of the worst things a human can do. There's seriously so many worse things humans can do to be fair.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

I can't disagree. Not sure how I answered that, but I know I didn't strongly agree with it being the worst.This looks accurate to me

Fuark I'm a saint. I'm morally superior to liberals and conservatives across the board
Also I think you're being idealistic in thinking that moral transgressions are normally spurs for action

Questions are retarded and vague.
Brb "one of the worst things possible is to hurt a harmless, defenseless animal"
If I click strongly disagree do they label me a psychopath? I can think of 10 other things worse than that.

So a high score for authority seemed off with such high scores for harm and fairness.
I'm good with respecting leadership that has a basis in merit, experience, or sometimes expediency. But if I have to "ask forgiveness, not permission" or "go outside the chain of command" I will if that's what it takes. I've been professionally thrown under the bus and scapegoated. I can be a good soldier or even ride or die for the right leader.
I just don't automatically give that much of myself because someone has a title.

I can think of many worse things also. I've encountered some that have just kind of stuck in my brain because they are so horrific to me.
I think the test might be better if they gave more context, or examples, but I guess then it would be a different test.
I kind of think that being a parent stretches your concept of fairness. Because the right thing for one kid might not be the right thing for another. Also it is a stumbling block for a lot people getting caught up on fairness that can't be achieved instead of acceptance of reality that could allow them to make progress.

From the study I skimmed the first two values [harm and fairness] are associated with treatment/priority of the individual, while the other three [loyalty, authority, and purity] are associated with prioritizing the group above the individual.
So, at least on a broad scale, you would expect westerners to score more highly on the first two than, say, the Chinese or maybe members of hierarchical religious groups.
It also seems like the kind of information that might be used for psychological warfare.
Apparently when liberals are triggered by an action being harmful they are more likely to judge it as unfair, and vice versa:
For example, if a liberal believes that a policy is unfair to a person or group, they should also be more likely to see the policy as harmful (and vice versa).
- don't wear a mask and you will kill grandma [harmful to a group]- grandma shouldn't have to quarantine/isolate [fairness]
Meanwhile liberals [who more often segregate individual vs. binding] may not associate harm/fairness with any of the binding foundations [loyalty, authority, purity].
For conservatives fairness clusters more with loyalty.
And the US appears to have a bigger divide in how we cluster or segregate the various values.

The first US sample is 2007/2008 and the second US sample is 2016, while the NZ sample is from 2011.
