I don't get Taekwondo

How is it even in the Olympics? It seems like all it involves is sporadically flailing your front leg out at your opponent.

I mean it’s one of the few sports with actual functional applicability like if you’re dating a HTC lady and you go to chipotle for dinner and boom you’re back at home and she hustles off to the bathroom and farts out a seventeen inch mahogany hiney viper and then screams for you to fetch the plunger but you broke it last week after she went to Golden Corral you could just run in and hi ya chop that thing into a few potentially flushable chunks that seems like a decent skill to have but maybe it’s just me thinking along these lines

It makes me wonder what the training is like. Do they just kick over and over to get decent balance and accuracy then you are a black belt? Judo too is pretty boring, seems like BJJ but they stop when anything even starts happening (they go to the ground). Except for a few highlights they aren't really much for spectacle sports.

Fedor a million ankles himself took TKD as part of his mma training because of the improvement it gives your kicks.

Anyone thinking it’s useless for mma purposes is misinformed.

I think chit like tkd and karate only works when you're already a tremendous athlete and are mixing it in with the big four.
Krav Maga was based off of boxing and wrestling and is a hybrid that borrows from every discipline so you pretty much contradicted yourself.

I did it for 6 years when I was a teenager, had a lot of fun with it. In a street fight the only really applicable stuff I got out of it was the hard body conditioning. We did a lot of breaking so if we actually made contact in a fight, the other guy would get seriously fuked up.

That said, any serviceable boxer could pick us apart pretty easily as long as they knew to stay out of leg kick range. You would need to be insanely fast to kick a boxer in the head but a well timed leg kick to the calf or side of the knee is something they could easily walk right into. You see this a lot in MMA. Some guys just don't respect the possibility of leg kicks and by the 2nd round they are more or less hobbling around on half crippled legs.

TKD back kicks and spinning back kicks do end a fair number of MMA fights but aside from that I do agree with you about TKD.

A proper spinning back kick to the liver cannot be recovered from, literally shuts off part of your nervous system. There are a bunch of clips of this on YT, hurts just to watch.

I train in Krav Maga, have for 8 years I know what I'm talking about. A lot of what you learn in Krav Maga is used in combat sports the only difference is how it is applied. In combat sports there are rules, in a street fight there aren't but it doesn't take any special training to kick someone in the groin or jam a thumb in the eye.

it's about application. krav maga seems like it's built around techniques that can't be effectively practiced on others without seriously injuring them so, to me, it's be difficult to train it on a way to get real muscle memory on the techniques.

I don't train it so obviously I have a limited perspective but from what I gather krav maga is impractical
There is sparring in Krav Maga and it's not as difficult to build muscle memory as you might think.

Same with karate, I think you have to be like Wonderboy level athleticism to be able to use it effectively and it still has to be incorporated with the four major mma disciplines
Lots of TKD is pretty flashy but a back kick is just a straight punch but with your leg. There is risk because you are on one leg if you miss but if it connects it is pretty devastating.

If I was in an actual fight the only TKD I would actually use is a back/side kick somewhere between quad and liver. I don't know if you have ever practiced this but they are low skill, it does not take long to get decent with this kick.

I also like that a low side kick can get them to drop their hands. Imagine someone essentially shooting their heel out of a cannon at your quad and not dropping your hands.
