New privacy search engine from Brave, you aware? Alternative to DuckDuckGo, etc

I usually stay up to date on tech stuff, but I missed this.

https://search.brave.com

Beta level search engine from the creators of Brave Browser.

Official announcement:
https://brave.com/brave-search-beta/

I'm actually really impressed with it so far. If you're sick of Google and if DuckDuckGo isn't tickling your fancy, check it out

Snippet from the announcement:
Brave Search is different from other search engines because it uses its own index and follows different principles:

Privacy: no tracking or profiling of users.

User-first: the user comes first, not the advertising and data industries.

Independence: Brave has its own search index for answering common queries privately without reliance on other providers.

Choice: soon, options for ad-free paid search and ad-supported search.

Transparency: no secret methods or algorithms to bias results, and soon, community-curated open ranking models to ensure diversity and prevent algorithmic biases and outright censorship.

Seamlessness: best-in-class integration between the browser and search without compromising privacy, from personalization to instant results as the user types.

Openness: Brave Search will soon be available to power other search engines.

“Brave Search is the industry’s most private search engine, as well as the only independent search engine, giving users the control and confidence they seek in alternatives to big tech,” said Brendan Eich, CEO and co-founder of Brave. “Unlike older search engines that track and profile users, and newer search engines that are mostly a skin on older engines and don’t have their own indexes, Brave Search offers a new way to get relevant results with a community-powered index, while guaranteeing privacy. Brave Search fills a clear void in the market today as millions of people have lost trust in the surveillance economy and actively seek solutions to be in control of their data.”

I'd prefer to use something else but google brings up by far the best non political results. I don't search for anything political often enough to switch
Well, it's in beta so hopefully it will improve.

The competition is so strong that I believe they have something they are pretty confident will succeed without fizzling out.

There's a bunch of information our there about the technology behind it which is pretty fascinating to delve into, although I'm not going to pretend to understand all the development stuff

Google knows exactly who you are just by the content of your browsing and search history lmao. Unless you're obfuscating that data with automated random web searches and page visits for random duration of time, you aren't doing enough

This is the most important thing IMO.

Anything that claims privacy as its main feature is already compromised by 3 letter agencies.

Awesome. I remember reading that Brave was coming out with a search engine independent of Google and Microsofts Bing. I'll have to be sure to use it.

the context is privacy not anonymity.

I thought Brave got criticized for not being as private as they claimed to be

but I could be wrong. It is my preferred mobile browser but it's just easier for me to set up the way I like it
