You have the option of going back to a social media free world

The catch? smartphones will never be invented, no consumer level tablets either

- Cellphones will not surpass nokia brick/moto flip models level of tech
- The internet will exist and evolve however all social media will be absent
- Youtube/video sharing exists but absent of narcissistic self promotion
- Instant message ICQ/MSN available

Do you go back?

I hiked four miles out to a lake today to go trout fishing. I had zero cell service and didn't want it. Turned my phone off and threw it in my backpack then worried about everything once I got back to civilization. I would go back to brick phones and no social media in a heartbeat.

Obviously on a hike you're occupied with your surroundings/nature etc

Smartphone conveinience is more about the day to day, googling stuff on the go, browsing during transit/at work, useful apps like net banking etc etc

Being able to disconnect from everything is nice. A smartphone is nice to have but far from necessary. I drove from AK to Washington state a few years ago without gps or a working phone, just an offline map. Four days of peace and quiet. I'd be okay with it any day.

Crazy to think that this was the norm only like a decade ago. It wasn't just assumed you had a cell and were expected to be available 24/7 for any reason, anywhere. The freedom and personal time we give up with smart phones is actually kind of insane

This.
Never had social media, never will.

No brick phone, and the only reason is I can't get analog service anymore, or GSM for that matter. I'd rather use y old nokia if I could as the reception and battery life were way better.
I use a cell phone a few times a year tops. The one I have now is on airplane mode and I last made a call on it in 2019.
I have all my calls come in on a POTS landline.

No

I can accomplish so much from my phone it’s ridiculous. My life is 100x better because of it.

Yes it would be nice to eliminate the negatives of social media, but not at the expense of everything else I’m able to do with technology these days.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

What's the point of not having social media? You think sloots will be more receptive?

Yeah there are some drawbacks but the upsides greatly overshadow them. Plus we wouldn't be able to just log into an app and find a sloot to bang. I'll take that any day hnnnggg

I'm not saying one cant exist without the other but there is a problem of constant accessability, selfies, comments, likes that social employs through the use of smartphones

The point of no smart phones was moreso to remove an item of exceptional conveinience from our life in exchange for a better societal outcome
