Cdc extends eviction moratorium. Wtf .

How can the cdc put a hold on evictions ? I wouldn't think they have that kind of power?

The end date is convenient…their models probably say we’ll have another big holiday surge and it creates the political opening to pass through an extension through the end of the year at the very least.

At this point, I would just make peace with myself and accept the fact that the planet has gone full Totalitarian and everyone is too distracted by the race/culture war to care.

While I sympathize with people who lost their jobs or are struggling . . . this is so far outside the CDC's lane that it's crazy. And the courts already ruled it's unconstitutional and the onus is on Congress to pass legislation on this if that's the goal. CDC just does it unilaterally anyway.

They voted that it was ok (or declined to take the case, dont recall exactly) then said some strong (meaningless) words agsinst the moratorium to save face.
4 justices said they would have granted the request to lift the moratorium. Kavanaugh basically said it was going to expire quickly anyway so he'd allow it to stay in place to allow congress to address it . . . but said if the government were to extend the moratorium past July 31, it would need "specific congressional authorization."

I agree. Kavanaugh should have just done the right thing even though it had a short expiration. He (incorrectly) gave an overreaching govt the benefit of the doubt that they wouldn't overreach the same way. Bet he's not particularly happy.
