Therapist called me a Type B - Feels bad mane?

Long story short I was explaining how my manager wanted me to apply for a higher level position within the team, and I declined. Reason behind that was I didn't want to get stuck with a bunch of the crap projects they tend to delegate to seniors / higher ups, for only like a 5% pay bump.

Time goes by and they assign me some of those kinds of projects anyways because they think I'm capable. More time goes by and another spot opens up to enable me to apply for promotion, so manager once again asks me to apply. I do it this time, figure might as well get the title and slightly better pay for the work I'm already doing. Still pending to get results on if I get promoted or not.

This whole explanation resulted in my therapist saying I'm a "Type B" personality. They said a "Type A" is someone who is more "gungho" and is aggressive about climbing up the ladder for success, wants to be the winner even at expense of exhaustion, that sort of thing. They then said a "Type B" is more laid back with things in life, might not even want to have complex planning for vacations, and would rather just watch TV lol. Doesn't want to do too much more than the minimum expectations, etc.

I asked for advice on what to do about the job, and he said "go for the promotion if you think you'd get fired for not moving up. Otherwise let your manager know that you don't want more work, you're content with what you're doing and what you're paid to do."

Pretty sure being called a Type B is the same as being called a Beta when he breaks it down like that.

Are you miscers a Type A or Type B personality? I kinda feel ashamed but not argumentative about it, I'd like to define myself as laid back lol.

Like why put in a chit ton of extra effort for a 5% pay bump? Sounds like your signing yourself up to be paid less for your output. Seems like that is for suckers/people who just want to have a higher rank than others.

Labor isn't free, if they want you to do work that higher ups are assigned, the pay should go with it. If I were in that position, I'd tell them to kick rocks unless I was compensated properly.

"B-b-but this shows that you have the drive to move up!"

Nope. You obviously want to promote me, so give me the phucking money to do the work.

Nothing wrong with turning down a job if its more work for less pay. That's not a promotion.

Therapists are for women and kids with problems though. Can't imagine what a grown man would need a therapist for, go drink some beers at the bar and unwind with the regulars or something.

GF and I almost broke up, we agreed to try continuing the relationship. My condition was we lived separately (she moves out). Her condition was we both get individual therapists.

I know a straight up type A girl, every detail of her life I planned out from the start of the day to the end. Looks miserable

Ok, I read it. I will say this-by the time you're an adult your mindset and personality are pretty much set in stone. If you're naturally predisposed to go slow, not take up new challenges, etc, why change? If you are happy with your life, why take the route that your brain is not wired for? Maybe you are self conscious, but I have to ask why? Steve Kerr was never going to be Michael Jordan while he played. But who was the better coach? We all have our niche. Go find it man and have some respect for yourself.
Virtue is its own reward.

If it is such a thing then I've always been a Type B personality. Never really wanted or cared about getting promoted in anything. Avoid responsibility like its a disease and do what I need to do to get paid and enjoy myself. I almost got barred from reenlistment when I was in the army because I did not want to go to the promotion board and make SGT.

The solution is to break up with her. She's your GF, not wife. If **** like this is happening before you even put a ring on it that is god telling you to run.

And fwiw, I've never seen a relationship where partners separate actually work out. Good luck to you.

Take a break and see if you still want to be with her. It'll change you back to Alpha. A therapist will put a tag on you and if your gullible you'll buy into that, then take the medication and make your girl happy. Your not married to her and don't really owe her anything. Marriage counseling is one thing for a girlfriend trying to change who you are is another.

You’re looking at this in a very shortsighted way. Ask anyone that commands a good salary in CORPORATE AMERICA, and they will easily explain how they got there.

Step 1: get a job

Step 2: work hard and get promoted within the company for a new tittle, but minimal salary increase. Work this title for a year or two.

Step 3: leverage this new title for a similar job at a different company for a MUCH HIGHER SALARY

Rinse and repeat.

Everyone knows that companies pay much more (ie fair market) when poaching from a different company or hiring outside the company. Raises within the company usually on result in a small salary bump. What you want is a new title to leverage new job opportunities with different companies.

This is rookie stuff here. Everyone knows this.

First of all, never tell chit to a shrink of any sort. They are parasites who are trying to shame you and manipulate you for the bottom dollar. Keep that in mind, and quit spilling your guts to the enemy. If you have a dog, you have a friend. But if the critter looking back at you is a shrink that ain't your friend. Feed it banalities until it goes away, but press whatever points you need to get across in the follow up email. Get everything down in writing. IE, after he calls you a lazy good for nothing slut, say, "You called me a lazy good for nothing slut and that was uncalled for. I am nothing like that and am aggressive af." If you fail to push your points and let him run you over, then you will have nothing to fight back with. He'll write some piss poor evaluation of you, get your ass demoted, but at least you can hold up your emails and see, "hey ****tards, I have proof of what went on in his little cock twisting sessions. What he's pushing isn't medical data but his jack ass opinion." That's how you handle a shrink or anyone at work for that matter. They are not your friends. Work is work and there are no friends there.
