What are some things that you choose to pay the cheapest price for and what things do you spend more money on?

I’ve got a £700 shower head. So shower heads would be a pay more item for me.

Never cheap out on shoes or TP.

What is cheap? This is hard to answer.

Relative to each person. Fairly simple really.

It’s a huge ceiling mounted rainshower by a decent German brand. Money well spent tbh it’s a game changer

I’d say bedding as well is a big one

I'm in a place in life where I have money now, pretty well off. Here are my spend items.


1. Got a big house. Square footage helps everything, love it.


2. Finally spent some money on robot vacuums. I like the brand Wyze, their only wifi robot vacuum is about $250, they just released it, it's on par with $450 robot vacuums. There ARE better but you have to spend about $550+ on the Roomba brand to get there. Happy I got this.


3. A bed. I finally decided to get a high end bed, and got a Tempurpedic. I get OCD with research, I looked at every brand I could think of (mostly the memory foam types). Hate to say but Tempurpedic was the only one that felt "different" in a superior way, it was the best, though I do still think it was overrated. Purple was interesting and different but still didn't beat Pedic. I also got an adjustable base that vibrates, I never thought I'd want that but I'm not going back. A gentle vibration as I fall asleep is so nice, it turns itself off.


4. Nice TV, because obvious reasons. I do not spend a ton on shoes or clothes, don't need to spend a ton to look good.


5. Got the fastest phone and a good PC. Efficiency hopefully pays itself off.


6. Finally invested in a solid wireless speaker system for the house, Sonos, really happy with it. Slightly overpriced but I got the new stuff, spent maybe $2k on speakers and it all connects so effortlessly to my phone or anybody elses phone, great for parties, etc.

Pay more on:

Anything involving health. Would pay a premium for a nice gym with sauna, lap pool, etc. than just a place with weights. For food pay more on groceries. Not obsessed with organic but will pay for plant protein based pasta instead of that carb chit, or quality bread (Dave's Killer) instead of just loaf of white. Dont overload on supplements but use a couple.

Trips and experiences. Still am frugal with how I go about this, but if you say "hey next year what to go to Rio?" I will be in and usually find a way to make the total trip (flight, food, hotel, everything) cost me under a grand out of pocket - srs have done that already with trips to Germany, Czech, Spain, Iceland, and Hawaii. Similarly, if someone wants to pay big money for something like a guided expedition up a mountain or multi day rafting trip then I am fine with that - will be awesome experience.





Dont pay on:


-Clothes. Fit > Brand with clothes, and if you are jacked/low bf% then you will look better in almost anything than an average joe with expensive clothes. Most of it is garbage, but Amazon, TJ Maxx, etc. you can find solid stuff


- Car. Have a 12 year old Toyota that I fully plan on driving another 10 years on it. Get comments all the time but really dont care

- home improvement projects. All my friends and family are always spending money making an 'improvement' on something or another. These are 99% of the time negative ROI giant money sinks. Yes, sometimes it's nice if you truly will enjoy the new feature - like a deck or grill space. But usually it's just people bored and wanting to change things up


- Subscriptions. These are a killer as they seem small but over time add up. Only have one streaming service pay for, basic internet, no cable. Find ways around paywalls for content on areas like the WSJ. Do pay for an app called Strava (see above: health) but try to pay little overall.



I make more now, but average salary all throughout 20s was ~63k. Able to pull off a very high saving rate (fluctuated) and get to 200k saved/invested by 30 (small by misc standards but pretty good based on my average joe salary). When I make any decent sized financial decision I think in terms of net worth always.

Not 'can I afford it' but 'how will it impact my net worth'?. Is it worth going from 200k to 150k for a new car? A new kitchen? IMO no. One day as this money continues to compound I will care less but when young trying to save as much as possible to have maximum flexibility later

Camera's, fit watches. $4500 last year on an EOS R, software and a few f/4 lenses to start developing 3D imagery.

Recently picked up the Fenix 6X Sapphire.

other than electronics i am a cheap ba$tard most of the time.

I have a Fenix 5x+, bought it last year refurbished. Absolutely love it - useful for camping, hiking, swimming, running, training, etc. The ability to store and play music without needing a phone or anything nearby makes it a GOAT watch

Cologne.

Dat dere Aventus.

I think a good laptop or smartphone and shoes. I don't usually save on these things because if they are good quality, they will save me more money due to their durability than cheaper similar products would down the road.

I buy Creed Aventus samples off eBay. They all swear they're legit, but sometimes some of the small bottles I get smell better than others. They all smell similar, it would be really hard to fake it wouldn't it?



It's just easier to justify the cost that way. I buy one like once every 2 months for like $20.
