Misc electricians, looking to install a few ceiling fans and wondering if it's worth getting to these boxes to swap them out. I hadn't seen a support bar like this previously (house is circa 1960s) and was wondering if anyone had any experience with these types of boxes? I'm used to the ones that screw into the sides of the joists, these appear to screw into the bottom which feels counterintuitive.

Trying to determine if it's worth it to cut out above the box and put in a 2x4 or not to secure the box to. It's not exactly easy to get overhead access to, these pictures are about 1' under some boards that I'd have to cut back and then taking out those straps isn't something I feel like doing. My hesitation is that there is already a fan installed in one of the other rooms (been there for about 10 years now) and the box supporting that has even less redundancy, and so far no problems. These fans won't be used very often, but the rooms get a bit hot in the summer so it's really minimal use for 3 months/year.

- anyone with any experience with these? Can it support fans or does it need supplemental bracing?

Reuse that box. It is a decent setup
It has bracing. That is just a old box built for a fan

I just paid a guy last week $10 to install mine

100% not worth replacing. just re use them. if you put in new one's somewhere then just buy "old work" ceiling fan rated boxes from somewhere (that will have metal arms that extend out) and if they have a metal housing as well then use NM clamps or grommets at the very least.
