Has Anyone Ever Experienced a “Popped Rib Head”?

After experiencing some upper back pain after squatting and performing pull ups, I went to a massage therapist for the first time.

The massage was pretty painful and the massage therapist said that I may have a “popped rib head” and gave me a free consultation to their chiropractor who works in the same building. This was on Friday and the appointment is tomorrow.

The pain had been extremely noticeable yesterday and today in this exact area:

I have laid in bed with a pillow propping up my head to keep the swollen area of my back from pressing up against my bed and hurting worse.

I am a little worried about this now because a “popped rib head” sounds odd and its highly debated on the internet.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I've had pain in that same exact area that wears off after 3-5 days. It usually comes back whenever I'm under some stress.

Yeh I get these every few months. Generally speaking I can pop it back in with a foam roller and some mobility work and stretches. But if I can't do it myself fast, it's best to get to the chiro asap in my experience.

Edit: If you have a foam roller, hug yourself and roll up and down. That usually does it for me.

Do either of you work at a computer or do a lot of driving by chance?

My research says that this can happen when your to hunched over with rounded shoulders and that can be the cause of the problem or poor posture.

Btw repped.

I've had pain in that area. It was the result of a nerve in my neck being compressed though.

yeah I get it from time to time. can be caused by a number of factors such as sitting at a desk or too many pressing motions like bench or punching the bag and usually results in the trap or nearby muscles into spasming. get the chiro to release it and ice the area afterwards you'll be right as rain

Yes. Foam roller, lay on back with hands interlocked over your head, roll back and forth slowly and you will feel it pop back in.

You can arch backwards over a couch and get the same results.

I have had pain in that area for about a year. I went to physical therapy and they told me one of my ribs was rotated or something. Sometimes the pain is so bad I can only take shallow breaths.

I have noticed that sometimes I move in a certain way or the therapist would push on my back in a certain way, I'd hear a pop and the pain would be gone for hours.

I have a hard plastic ball for muscle release, if I put it in the right spot and lay on it I can pop the rib back in place and the pain goes away for a few hours.
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.
