Is it safe to say Kygo is as good as Avicii?

dude is the obvious spiritual successor to avicii, who was a misc favourite back in the golden high energy days of the misc. now, they have similar yet distinct sounds, but in my opinion kygo is just as good at what he does as avicii was at what he did

didn't think I heard of Kygo, but just listened to Firestone, and that was one of those songs that I heard but didn't know the title and could never find.

I'm a fan.

Not even close, Avicii produced absolute masterpieces to both mainstream music listeners and to edm fans. Avicii created songs that topped Top 40 charts but also headlined EDC and Tomorrowland.

For impact/influence and sound, closest to avicii was swedish house mafia imo. both from that same GOAT era of edm, both highly influential and both brought a certain brand of edm into the mainstream spotlight which in turn helped EDM blow up.

For current DJs, I'd say Calvin Harris/Zedd (personally think theyre both trash) maybe are the closest things to Avicii, but even then they are far far off from the impact that Avicii/SHM had.

I agree, it sucks that he is gone but I still question the suicide. Last thing I read about before it happened was he was doing a documentary with Chester from LP and Chris Cornell about child trafficking. It makes no sense how all these guys committed suicide.

yeah in terms of overall impact and popularity it's no contest. avicii captured something that was very specific to that moment in time and it was just perfect. I doubt it will be repeated.

I meant more in terms of consistent quality of content. Kygo always puts out heaters and I love his sound--brings good feels

I saw Kygo at TomorrowWorld in 2014 when he covered for Avicii. What a show, he was a relatively new guy but knocked it out of the park.

They are different vibes, can’t really compare.
