Misc Doctors, vaccine question ( ded srs )
My gf and her mom just survived the delta variant of the China virus. They were sick for 2 weeks.
They have the protonz, I’m assuming it’s pointless to take the vaccine rn ?
Obligatory pics of GF

For them or you?
If them, then no that makes no sense. The sequence of events would have to flip to make sense.
If you, then get an antibody test, if positive, then no need. If negative, then its your choice as you are in the same boat you were 2 weeks ago.

They're good for a while, OP. Probably a long while.

If so, the chances that those were both false positives is very low and there's limited benefit to getting a vaccine. The vaccine is to the wild type strain's spike protein, so they would have antibodies to both spike proteins if they got vaccinated. Given the predominant strain is now delta, and given they likely have pretty high antibody titers right now, I don't know if it would add any significant immunity. They also have antibodies to the nucleocapsid now. I haven't been following the post infection guidance lately, but if it was me who caught the virus and hadn't been vaccinated, I'd probably wait 6 months.
The main reason the CDC and most heath authorities have recommended people get one shot after infection is because they know there are a lot of people who think they had the virus but probably didn't. Could be a couple of percent of the people who had positive antigen tests. My recollection is that those have a much higher false positive rate than the PCR.
You getting an antibody test if you haven't been vaccinated was reasonable advice if you're scared to get the vaccine. Or you could simply get the vaccine and risk feeling like ka ka for a couple of days.
Oh, and what does it mean they have the protonz?
