I used to read quite a bit about quantum computing but I don't remember it all now. The one thing that stood out to me was that it's feasible that there could be a quantum computer in the not too distant future that would have more bits than there are atoms in the universe. In other words, the most advanced super computers of today would look like an Atari 2600 by comparison.

There’s either 0 or 1 in binary digital code. 0’s and 1’s create data.
In a quantum computer, it can be both 0 and 1 at the same time. Or something like that. This apparently increases the computational ability drastically.

It seems small, but when you're talking about exponential effects applied over however many *illions of bits, it becomes massive.
Consider the difference between the exponentials 2^n and 3^n.
Say n = 100, which is pretty small obviously.
2^100 = 1.25*10^30
3^100 = 5.15*10^47
That's amultiplicativeincrease of ~4*10^17 (400 quadrillion). Chit adds up.

P.S. Just did a quick search on "brain microtubules" after typing out my original answer, and I stumbled across what looks to be all the papers/info you must have come across for quantum microtubules. I think it's easy enough to consider the brain a computer [see my below answer], but I really have no clue on the quantum aspect. A quick skim makes it seem like actual quantum phenomena are causing the exchange of information [rather than electrical impulses in a traditional electronic computer]. I guess if that's happening, I'd agree that it's a quantum computer, but my only physics experience is 101 and 102 classes, so I have no idea how legit those phenomena are.

Re: microtubule quantum computers, (while I don't really have a clue what microtubules are) I'd think about what is any sort of computer first - imo, that's some sort of system composed of gated connections that are triggered by impulses. It's a machine of sorts that models a function; it is made of physical components and takes inputs and follows an algorithm to produce desired outputs.
I feel like with a definition like that, even with my limited neuroscience knowledge, calling the brain a computer seems easy - neurons are connected by synapses and selectively triggered by electrical impulses to produce predictable outcomes.
Whether it's a quantum computer, fuk if I know. Don't know enough about the definition of "quantum" or about biology/neuroscience in general to answer that. If the simple meaning of quantum is "bits have more than two possible values," then I'd probably place money on the human computer being "quantum." If anything, I'd wonder if neurons deal in bits with a continuous spectrum of values [e.g. all the infinite decimal values from 0 to 1] rather than a discrete 2-3 values.
