Are Seasons 2-3 of True Detective as good as the First Season?

Just saw the other day they made two more seasons. I thought it was a one off are the new seasons as good as the first?

I enjoyed season 3 - give it a shot OP.

Season 2 was watchable but boy did it stray too far. Too disorganized and had different storylines going🤨

No but season 3 is decent in its own right, just try to think of it as a completely different series and you'll likely enjoy it. Season 2 had a sick cast but was very underwhelming, brb talking about zoning.

Based on S2, absolutely not. It had good moments and was overall an easy 6.5/10 as a stand alone series but S1 struck gold. Much tighter show, more interesting characters with a compelling dynamic, great storyline with some really tense moments and good action scenes, solid payoff, amazing aesthetic. The whole thing felt believable and raw, while having a sinister otherwordly tone to it. I seldom rewatch TV but watched S1 at least 3 times.

S3 I didn't watch, heard good things but w/e.

It is an anthology show, so no season has anything to do with the others. That being said, season 2 was contrived and a waste of a good cast, but season three was pretty good and who knew Stephen Dorff could pull that off?

Season 1 was the best by far. Season 2 gets **** on because it was such a drop off from S1 but it's still very good. S3 was just okay

nothing will ever compare to season 1 so you have remember that

s2 was good cast but not near as good and the hype of season 1 really accentuated this. if it had come first we would have viewed in a better light

s3 was a good recovery and enjoyable


s1 is goat of all time seasons of tv so no comparison

The first season is one of the best shows I've ever watched. EVER. Highly recommend.

2nd is meh. Still watchable but compared to the first, disappointing.

3rd started off promising but the ending gave me blue balls. Disliked this season the most.

First season's a 10, 2nd season's a 7.5(a lot of people would say lower because they're comparing it to season 1, but compared to the rest of tv it's at least a 7), 3rd season's an 8.5.
Bodybuilding is a lifetime journey, anytime spent not bulking or cutting is a waste of time.

If season 1 is 10/10, the season 2 is about 7/10. I haven't seen season 3.

Season 2's downfall is that there are too many storylines and they added a female protagonist to please the feminists and an alphabet subplot to please the alphabet people.

On the plus side, the female protagonist is Rachel McAdams, so it's got that going for it.

Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell are both decent.

Season 1 was amazing.

Season 2 was awesome too, but definitely lived in the shadow of Season 1. But it was underrated - people unfairly shat on it, it was actually really engaging. The ending was way more intense, the characters had far more resolution to their arcs, IMO.

Haven't watched Season 3 yet.

1 was amazing.

2 was not bad imo.

3 was ... ok? The story just wasnt as engaging but it was well acted.

couldn't make it past the 2nd episode of season 2. so i have no interest in season 3.

No they were chit. I liked Vince Vaughn in season 2 though. And some Colin Farrell chit was funny.

They should've just called it a different name, was very underwhelming compared to S1.

S3 I thought would be amazing but I was bored to tears even though Mahershalah Ali is a great actor. Gave up after 2 or 3 EPs.

When it comes to anthology series Fargo is the GOAT. Every season is 10/10 except maybe the 2nd half of S4 which kinda falls flat.
