tripping me out to learn time moves different depending on your location
I was watching some sci-fi videos which led me to real science videos.
Do you know time is slightly different if you are standing on your roof vs in your basement?
So much so satellites have to account for this to make gps work

Is it 1915 again already?
We know why time is related to velocity, because if you model spacetime as a 4-d Minkowski space as in special relativity space and time are properties of the same 4 dimensional geometric space. Then it's just geometry.
All velocities are relative, except the speed of light which is constant, this was discovered way back in the 1800s by Maxwell when he discovered electromagnetism and wrote his equations.
Einstein used this as a starting point, and figured the only way it's possible for velocity to be relative, but the speed of light to be constant in all reference frames is for time dilation and length contraction to occur depending on your velocity (the amount this occurs is called the Lorentz factor)... although this is only significant close to the speed of light.
It also introduces light as the maximum speed, and only achieved by massless particles, which in turn tells us we can't even see or have causal influence in most of the universe, just those within our light cone.
Even though space and time can be experienced differently depending on your velocity, the spacetime interval between 2 references frames will always be the same (i.e they will all fall on the same spacetime interval hyperbola) and this rescues causality.
