We all know that the vast majority of American youth need to be poked and prodded just to go to school (much less do well). So the incentive to be considered is to pay kids to not only come to school but offer monetary rewards for doing well in class. The money will come by cutting the paychecks of teachers/administrators. By the way, this plan will only apply to public schools (not private).

What do you guys think? Will this improve education? academic performance? discipline?

kids are getting free food, free housing, free education, free healthcare, afforded more comfort and benefits and opportunity than any time in history, and they need to be incentivized with just straight cash to get their life together?

Would at least make studying hard and doing well for yourself an appealing option. Mom with 7 kids doesn’t need a check every month that gets wasted on bad habits and enabling her lifestyle. Make sure families have enough food to survive and a place for shelter, and save that welfare cash to any kids that somehow make it to 18 doing well.

Actually it is a bad idea. There's a lot of research out there that shows how damaging linking extrinsic motivation to something can be. Effort is not genuine, and often times it will even lead to taking whatever shortcuts necessary to obtain the reward. Often times it leads to lower productivity and poorer quality of work compared to tapping in to intrinsic motivation.

Kids are mostly a blank slate. They learn to hate school because they see behavior modeled that it should be viewed as something to get through in order to be able to do more enjoyable things. Everyone celebrates the end of the school day, even teachers. So how are kids suppose to perceive education?


Why do you think so many people hate their jobs as well? Unfortunately as an adult it's a bit unavoidable because the structure of our society is dependent upon us making money to support ourselves. Back when money wasn't a thing in tribal times and people supported each other in various roles as a community you typically saw people work longer and harder while being happier in the process.

something like like 35% reduced yearly tuition at a university of their choice if they were able to maintain a 3.4+ gpa and be accepted into it


most kids wont ever be eligible for full ride academic or sport scholarships there needs to be an incentive for the average kid
