I have one. Try to use it at least twice a week. Will start at bottom of feet and work upwards looking for sore spots. Also use a lacrosse ball on shoulders and a Kong hard rubber dog toy ball on glutes.

Stretching is important also. Glutes, hamstrings, hip flexors and shoulders all get tight if I don't stretch regularly.

I'm 39 and pain free. I believe without the massaging and stretching I would have quit working out years ago due to nagging injuries.

Would also recommend The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook. It covers all massage points in the body and has been very helpful.

I have one. I use it everyday to reach spots that my fingers can't get to. I use the harder attachments because it can get in there deep without losing the pressure and it feels amazing. I used to use balls when I felt tight but the vibration from the gun is a huge advantage and works wonders. I usually start with a few glute and hip movements and then a lot of stretching just to warm up and then I get straight into it. I haven't used it for recovery yet but I would also like to know if it actually does help.

Huh. I was going to say something about cramming it up your anoose and pulling the trigger. Are they actually legit?
Why not use a rumble roller. Is a massage gun more convenient because it doesn't require weird postures unlike a roller

You can get ones that are a foot and a half long. They are good for neck and back tension.

I think it's more valuable for warming up on the day of activity than for recovery honestly. The vibration helps get my pecs/shoulders/traps loose in a way stretching just won't. I'll do a warmup set with just the bar for instance, use the gun, do it again, and then start adding weight and using the gun between sets until I reach my working weight.

A long massage gun... Like a hitachi magic wand? lol
I looked it up on youtube, it's different from rollers apperantly. Rollers are for holding over ouchy trigger points and this stuff is for ... uh something else lol

got a Theragun last year and love it, game changer for recovery for me, I normally use it after every workout on the body parts I worked and everyday on traps where I normally store lotta tension and feet for foot pain. really helps avoid DOMS especially on legs where I normally get it worst. in the past I tried stuff like foam rolling etc but usually didn’t keep it up cuz was inconvenient but the gun is much more convenient and quicker imo

This. Use it for warming up whatever muscle you're about to work before lifting.

I'm 32 and in pain 24x7. I also use a lacrosse ball and have a massage gun, both work great, but it's kind of hard to use them when the pain is somewhere hard to reach like the middle of your back. Like this guy said, stretching is also very important, but who has the time.

They're completely useless for anything other than the basic level of sensation. They do nothing to promote actual recovery or stimulation. Same goes for rolling around on the floor. This isn't even a debate. Its been studied

Whatever you're feeling could easily made up by just promoting active recovery in general. Low impact movement like walking, swimming or biking is your best bet

Well my calves are always tight, so much so that I can barely walk in the morning, 1 minute with the massage gun and I have full range of motion and no pain, so it certainly works. I can also achieve the same with 10 minutes of stretching my calves, guess which is more convenient?

This is like having chronic headaches and then exclaiming that taking a waking dose of ibuprofen daily fixes it

I'd be more concerned why you're nearly crippled daily but keep band aiding your issue if you want

Use mine 3+ times per week, got a cheap one on sale from Walmart and it loses a little power when you really apply pressure but it's not bad. Also a TENS unit on my back and that helps a ton, also very cheap.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.
1/13/16: Massive hernia.
5/10/16: Finally back to lifting, light but improving.

Buddy had an issue with his elbow, started using one. Said it cleared up quickly.

I've been thinking about getting one for my shoulder. I have some annoying pain between my front and side delt.

Yeah, I gotta fix all that, and I will, eventually.

Or ya know, figure out why your shoulder is hurting chronically and address that issue instead of beating it with a dildo just to function like a normal human being.

I have a mini massage gun that I got close to a year ago. Take it to the gym with me and use it a lot in-between sets. Yes it helps. Thinking of getting a longer one one so I can hit areas of my back better. It was less than $40 and I use it almost every day a lot and still going.

Serious, I can feel my shoulders, back and chest cramping or knotting and I hit it with the gun instead of ignoring it and it's good. I think it's very good for prevention of injuries as well as recovery.

Because massage from an actual therapist is the same thing as rubbing a dildo on your leg. Go spread your dumb somewhere else.

Yep they're awesome. We have two of them, I used to work in the wellness industry and got the hookup.

Between that, a lacrosse ball, and two lacrosse balls taped in a "peanut" I'm pretty much pain free at 39.

Its almost like a massage gun killed someone in your family.

People that have used them seem to have great results and I'm not poor.

haha maybe

I just don't like to see people covering up their issues with gadgets. If you're chronically sore or in pain in certain areas, you need to address the underlying issue before it completely sidelines you

I'm far from poor. Used to spend time every day with balls, rollers, etc. After a while, I realized it was a never ending cycle. Started devoting my time into learning about efficient and effective movement and proper programming for volume, intensity and frequency.

I'm almost 40 now. Nearly as strong as I ever was at a lighter body weight and have zero pain while lifting or otherwise. It takes me about 5 minutes to get warmed up to workout, I wear zero protective gear and do self myo-facial release.
