Conservative who works in tech and knows that tradies make more money. Every tradie I know is loaded. Tech people I work with have half quit because they make like 45k and have 40k in student loan debt.

Aw, my opening poem was more in reference to high paying tech jobs being located in states that are [or are leaning towards] blue.Or maybe this will be the thing that kills the electoral college. Presuming of course that we don't breakup before 2028.

Alternately I still think that TX could go more into manufacturing. It's already happening somewhat [Tesla in Austin and maybe another big electric vehicle mfr. in Fort Worth]. Victoria [or that general area] seems like an opportune spot to me as they already have port access and approval to do dredging so that one of the ports can take even larger ships.

If TX [or some group of states] actually wants to split from the present US then getting a big port up and operating is important as both of the big ports now are in CA.

ETA: poked around and looks like TXDOT is planning for the big multi-modal port to be Velasco/Freeport.

Adding manufacturing jobs would be good but it's often cheaper to outsource labor and factory jobs could all end up becoming automated eventually anyway.

TX seceding would be the best thing for it's future probably but the U.S. would probably fight hard to keep it for a number of reasons. It'd be awesome if Texas could pull it off though. Even more people would probably try to immigrate rather than secede their own states.. any state secession won't be easy, but Texas has the best chance due to it's history

Well I would have to turn it on first. Don't have cable or watch cable news channels.Automation is the way forward, no question. But even automated factories have some human staff.

TX has it's own problems, they just don't seem to be quite as bad as the federal government's.

You know it's funny I thought the tech jobs were the ones all being outsourced to India and the like. At least that's what was in the news during the entire Bush (jr) administration

Most of my work is building wagie cagies for large tech companies. Apple, google, Microsoft, Splunk, Nvidia, Adobe etc.

Very few people work the high powered tech jobs, though….most are poors being held up by the tech industry taxes srs

Yeah Texas is not perfect. But it's handled covid almost as well as any other place in the world in terms of not being completely irrational and overreacting.

It's got some things a lot more right than other places do at least.
