Why do some people wear weightlifting belts

The entire time they’re at the gym? JFL at people that do this chit.

Only time belt is acceptable:
Heavy as fuk deadlift
Heavy as fuk squat
Heavy as fuk OHP

This chomo next to me is using it for biceps lmao

to look like they have a tiny waist and wider back, IMO.

But there is the chance he has a herniated disc or some back injury.

I use a belt, but i literally only wear it during my top sets of squats and deads, and it comes straight off after the set. Not sure how people wear them the entire session, when you use them properly they are quite uncomfortable.

Bodybuilders are largely idiots who can't think for themselves

They see their favorite InstaIdol do something and zero empirical data will change their mind after that

Srsly. When/if I use a belt, I have it tight so it actually does it’s job. I can’t sustain that chit for more than 1 set at a time. Seems like a retard thing to wear for long.

Probably the former lol.

You’d think if back injury you just rest and don’t risk straining, regardless of belt

I think they do it to look slim. There can't be that many hernias in the gym at once.

When I had lower back problems, I used to use a lifting belt. Intra-abdominal pressure it gave me helped me a lot my lifting with pain.

These days, I don't lift that heavy anymore and no lower back problems either, so no belt is required.

I usually wear mine during the heavier sets of squats/deads/ohp. I've seen ppl wear them during bench. Always lold at that, but maybe I'm missing something? Typically wear my belt almost under my pecs too, so it really isn't around my waist. If you wear it just below your chest, you can typically take advantage of the deep breath you take before a heavy lift.

these

being generousmaybe2% of people in a gym use a belt properly and actually get any benefit whatsoever from it. the other 98% wear it because they think that's what you're supposed to do or that it looks cool
