I know they say don't trade-in vehicles because you could get more

Selling privately, but I'm gonna do it anyway. Any tips for what to say when they low-ball me? KBB says it's worth 9-11k trade in based on condition, so I'm expecting them to offer 5 and I will insist on 9. Does this work?

Trade in to Carvana and they actually give you good money srs

Use quotes from carvana/shift/vroom/etc on local dealers to get them to offer more. I did this and got a local dealer (online dealer didn’t have the vehicle my wife wanted) and they came up about a grand (within a few hundred of shifts offer)

If its worth 9-11k the dealership should give you around 8 k

If you are buying a car from dealer than it may be worth it because your trade in lowers the tax amount you have to pay on the new car . Say your trade in is 8k and you are buying the car for 20k you will have to pay taxes on 12k .


But if you just selling OP sell it onwww.givemethevin.com

Also carvana is a good option too.

Just remember you are making two separate transaction. Get the best deal on both. Usually i get the best deal i can on the new vehicle before even telling them i have a trade. If they know ahead of time that you have a trade the negotiating will be different.

I sold my 350z to a guy with my title in hand, signed it over and he gave me cash

6 years later when I lived in a different he demanded I go back to Washington state and get him a new title? I was like I was 19 when I sold it. He bugged me on social media for like a year and I even tried to get it but I couldn’t. It wasn’t registered to me, I wasn’t on the title anymore.


That’s the only trouble I’ve had selling a car though

Good question kinda wondering this myself

I had a 2007 accord sold that privately but I let it go for just 1k so it was easy

Then bought a 2014 buick ....might not keep it long term and don't wanna take too too bad of a loss on it..

But realistically will probably just trade it in to avoid hassles hah

I don't think trade ins screw you that hard as long as IT is not a COMPLETE pos they just whole sale them to the auction anyway to get most of their money back INSTANLY and the profit they're making while moving inventory seems to usually work in your favor but can't say I have much experience with that.

No, I think they usually do lots of cars at a time not JUST one by one so if they have some good quality trade ins the might get more per car wholesaling then what they paid you since they could easily auction over wholesale value which they typically do so wholesalers can typically afford to pay decently since they make a profit at auction. Could be wrong though.
