#Vanlife girl never returns from cross country hiking trip with BF

I remember the thread about the suspicious disappearance of that girl that went on the hiking date with the cop and now it seems there is another odd disappearance.

Local and federal authorities are looking for 22-year-old Gabby Petito, who was reported missing by her family over the weekend after she had been traveling with her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.

Laundrie returned to the pair's North Port, Florida, home earlier this month without Petito and is now refusing to talk to authorities, police say. Petito's family and their attorneys have pleaded with Laundrie and his family to cooperate and help bring the girl home.
An attorney for the Laundrie family said in a Tuesday statement his family is "remaining in the background at this juncture and will have no further comment" on the advice of counsel.
Petito is White, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 110 pounds, with blonde hair, blue eyes and several tattoos, including one on her finger and one on her forearm that reads, "Let it be." The FBI has set up a national hotline -- 1-800-CALLFBI (225-5324) -- to receive tips.

Soo this couple were pulled over in Utah and signs of domestic violence were found on the boyfriend. This whole thing is super weird, I certainly got the vibe from the bodycam footage that this chick was certainly mentally unstable and the boyfriend seemed super paranoid. After they spent the night apart they linked back up and continued on to Yellowstone and Grand Teton Nat'l parks and she was never seen after that.

Despite repost, for the third time in a new thread I will repost my response

I think they got into a fight hiking, he accidentally knocked her off a cliff while arguing. Freaked out and drove home without reporting it not thinking.

Seriously doubt he intentionally murdered her and is trying to cover it up. I do think he f*cked up and is scared he’s going to jail though, which is why he’s got a lawyer and not talking.

Don’t think he straight pushed her off or anything. Probably near a ledge, arguing about something. I’m sure there was some physical grabbing/jostling. She slipped or he bumped her too hard and down she went.

And yeah, she’s dead. I think that’s pretty obvious sadly.
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

If that’s how it happened

Depending on where she went down if they were in a remote enough area it’s possible they never find her body and charge him with anything. Even if they do find her body, it still might be hard to charge him with anything.

As much of a retard it seems he is, and as f*cked up as it is, at this point saying nothing is probably in his best interest. Assuming he never talks I doubt we ever get the full details for how it went down.

Pretty much how I feel too, that he accidentally killed her in an altercation.

I saw the sister of the fiance spoke today and she said:
“Obviously me and my family want Gabby to be found safe,” Cassie said in the interview.

“She’s like a sister and my children love her, and all I want is for her to come home safe and found and this to be just a big misunderstanding,” she added.
What kind of misunderstanding could there possibly be that her brother can simply explain away at this point? Her brother won't talk and the girl is missing for 2 weeks already.

If the family really doesn’t know if she’s alive or dead the only other thing I can think of is they got in a fight and he left her out there, made his way back to the van and ditched her in the middle of nowhere.

I don’t know exactly what kind of charge he’d get for that but he’d get something for sure which would also explain why he isn’t talking. Especially if he thinks they were remote enough she wouldn’t make it out of there without the van. Maybe attempted murder? Again not sure the charge for something like that.

But even still, there’s not much “misunderstanding” there. Maybe hoping if she did resurface she wouldn’t press charges if that’s how it went down? Lol I dunno

Edit:

Sounds like the sister has her own family though and doesn’t live with his parents. She might not even know the full story herself. He’s only been home to his parents house for 2 weeks and if they immediately lawyered up the parents and the guy may not have even involved his sister fully. Probably better to avoid implicating anyone else. Reporters would still track her down and try to get something from her which probably led to this statement but my guess is she’s as clueless to the details as we are.

That could still be a murder charge, 1-2nd degree? Reckless abandonment?

Did they have mental health issues? Like actual mental health issues being treated regularly?

From what I saw the police report described them as having mental health crisis meaning during the altercation they were obviously having some emotional distress at the time.

I also read she told them she has ocd. But is this just a self diagnosed “I tend to be ocd about things” or is she actually seeing a therapist being treated regularly for ocd.

I don’t know if I’ve seen much that actually confirms either had any real mental health issues.

A report that claims a lot of stress and anxiety at the time of a fight isn’t significant mental health issues. It’s a normal emotional lapse in mental health from a stressful argument/fight which is why the cops suggested they separate for the night to mentally recharge.

That’s not the same thing as having sustained mental health issues

He could have left her stranded somewhere. What's crazy is you would think he would have cooled off after a couple hours driving and been like wtf am I doing? To stay on that course for 2 days is just nuts.

I think I read untreated mental illness. Neither of them taking meds or anything.

Yeah if he left her and didn’t come to his senses after cooling down he’s a retard. That’s why I’m leaning toward he accidentally bumped her off s ledge or contributed to her slipping off a ledge during a fight.

I think he knows she’s dead.

And I don’t think either had any real mental health issues. She told the cops she has ocd and is dealing with serious anxiety during that altercation. “Suffering” from anxiety is basically something every woman in 2021 claims these days.

Unless there’s reports that come out saying she was on medication for it, these mental health issues aren’t real enough to play any factor beyond normal human emotions that occur during stressful events/arguing.

Or, another scenario is maybe he is innocent. I was just at Grand Teton this past June. There's a ton of trails and off-trails with excellent views. They could have sat down, and she could have got up and said, "oh, let's check out that view". He could have said, "I need to sit, go ahead, I'll catch up in a few". Sure enough, he reaches a fork in the trail and doesn't know which way she turned. There's no cell phone service, so they can't call. He ends up not finding her and is terrified. It's now dark and they have no flashlight or jacket. He may have panicked.

Of course the next question is, how soon did he report it and did he call for a search party? or did he plan on keep looking for her the next day until he gave up?

I was in a 3-party hike once and the two other guys could not agree which way to go, so they both split. I side with the guy with the strongest rationale. The other guy who went the other way didn't come back till way late at night and we almost thought we had to get a search party for him.

I think people under-estimate how difficult it is to navigate large park trails, and the many "off-trail" trails can throw even more people off. A lot of times they will narrow up more and more till it dead ends. You turn around, you can't find the trail again.

Anyhow, hate to say this, but she's likely dead. You have to be super-prepared to survive that tough wilderness and especially how bone-chilling cold those Teton nights are. Without proper dress/gear, she probably died from exposure the first night.

If it was mental illness, she may have off'ed herself......he just wants to protect her image. idk......FBI is on it so I am sure a body will be found within 24-48 hours.......autopsy will be right after....

Why you think the FBI is on the case? Told ya, less than 48 hours they will have the location of the body and cause of death.

Police think it is related to that lesbian couple that was killed in the same area, about a week before this girl went missing, like mid-August. Apparently the lesbian couple worked at a store and were the ones that called the police initially when the van kids started fighting each other. Whole situation seems way more complicated than "nice guy" accidentally pushed her off a mountain during a fight. Sounds like, potentially, he and or his gf killed the lesbian couple, OR they saw him kill his GF so he killed them too.

What’s really weird is the last text sent was Aug 30th or something right?

Didn’t the boyfriend show up in Florida Sept 1st?

I know technically that’s enough time between something happening to her and him showing back up home on the 1st but he must have driven straight home, did not stop or anything lol

Like if she sent that message on the 30th that service was bad, which was the last text, the incident would have had yo happen that day

Then he would have had to hike his ass back to the van

Then drive 30-35 hours to get back to florida

And if she didn’t send that text and he had her phone for some reason and he sent it he’s really a moron.

So that part is kind of weird, but I guess technically not impossible from a timeline perspective.

But man he must have booked it straight the f*ck out of there and didn’t even stop to catch his breath all the way home lol. I guess after you just murdered someone, even if accidentally, your adrenaline is probably pumping pretty good.

I'm not convince of that. They would have had it by now IMO.

I think he is doing the right thing not saying a word... Whether he did it or had nothing to do with it. There is no point talking to the police in this situation would be beneficial.

Whole situation seems way more complicated than "nice guy" accidentally pushed her off a mountain during a fight. Sounds like, potentially, he and or his gf killed the lesbian couple, OR they saw him kill his GF so he killed them too.

Yeah I don’t buy that one.

People trying to turn this 22 year old couple (or even just the bf) on a road trip into some kind of serial killing maniacs…

Talk about highly improbable

Edit:

Just read a bit on that dead couple. Says they were killed by gunshot. Would be pretty easy to link him to those if he owned a firearm.

Unless we’re saying the guy already had an unregistered firearm with him that he decided to take along on the trip that began back in June.

In other words some serious premeditation to bring along an unregistered firearm knowing he wanted to kill his gf 3 months into their road trip… but oh by the way decided to take a little detour and cap a lesbian couple that reported them fighting in front of the store one of them worked at for good measure before getting around to disposing of his gf.

Seems like one hell of a stretch.

Thankfully you are not a police detective.

A. He had a fight with his gf a week before she disappears - He is subject #1 by a long shot. Domestic argument followed by one of them being found murdered or missing - #1 target is spouse and almost always turns out to be the murderer.

B. Two women go missing around the same time in the same area. They were the ones that called the police on the guy and his gf. They said the saw a creepy guy around their camping area just before they disappeared. They disappeared around the time that this guy and his girlfriend were separated by the police overnight. Very obvious connections here.

Utah retains legal jurisdiction over all of the Yellowstone National Park, but when brought to court against a jury of their peers, the jury must consist of citizens who are from both the district and state where the crime was committed.

Since the Idaho portion of the park is uninhabited, a jury of residents of both the state and district could not be formed, and therefore the crime cannot be punishable by law.

Da fuk? Can anyone confirm this? brb.....
