Unless it's a close friend or family selling/doing something for me in which case I get a good deal anyway, I'd never try to haggle/get the price down from a stranger as I'd feel like a desperate ****g0t. Doesn't matter what it is wether it's someone selling goods or even paying for escorts etc the whole act makes me feel like I'm harrassing someone.

If I can't afford it or think the price is stupid I just simply won't pay it and find someone else who does a better offer, but haggling just makes you look like a poverty cheapskate especially if you're buying off a complete stranger IMO.

it really depends on what you are buying, if you are buying a $10 trinket at a thrift shop yes if you are purchasing a car, or some other major item then no. I walked into the home builders office 4 years ago and talked my way into $20k worth of upgrades that I wouldn't of got if I just said "here take my money phaggots. Of course at the end of the day unless you are buying something from some schmuck on craigslist companies will only give you what they can to still make money.

It's part of some cultures and really ingrained in people. Had a friend in university (you can guess what ethnicity) who would literally buy a newspaper at the end of the day and try to get it for half price because it was "old news".

Haggling is pretty standard on craigslist. You always price your chit at way more than you expect to get for it, and simultaneously expect to be offered less. Asking price is always on the high-end of the range of what you'd accept. Buyers and sellers both know this. Usually you end up meeting in the middle. If you can't talk business without getting personal/emotional or offending or being offended at the other party, you're a child, simple as that.

I only really enjoy haggling in third-world countries to flex on the peasantry over what amounts to a completely insignificant amount of money in my life, but is probably enough to like put their kid through college or get their freakshow son Ooglo's heart condition treated.

This. While a higher priced escort doesn't always necessarily guarantee a better service, intentionally asking them for a lower rate is a good way of getting told to fuk off. Even if they do accept your price you're more likely to get a subpar service then if you paid the fixed rate.

I used to hate it, but took a course in negotiation in grad school, and now I enjoy doing it. It's part of my job as well, I worked in M&A just after grad school, and negotiating the deal was part of the job, both on the front end and after diligence was done to close the deals. Since then my last 3 jobs, the purchasing department or function of the company rolls up under me, and I'm generally included in any other types of negotiations the company is involved in from legal settlements to the terms in any contract signed by the company.

I worked for a CEO who used to try to negotiate after the deal was done and goods or services were already received, that was extremely uncomfortable and felt very much in bad faith. The only thing that made it tolerable was that many vendors expected this from him. He had no problem being sent out to collections and settling for a fraction of what he really owed. The guy is worth 9 digits though, so it's working for him, he is just insufferable.

I like to take this in my personal life from time to time, I knew guys who could extract value out of any M&A deal, who coughed up whatever they had to to buy their wives the houses of their dreams though. I won't do it, I don't like to lose the negotiation which includes overpaying for anything without haggling.
