No woke BS yet. Politics hadn’t infiltrated every part of Society yet. If you were in HS or college during this time, your main concerns were girls, parties, grades, ect. People were still patriotic as well and the rest of the world still looked up to the US as the epicenter of culture and entertainment.

It was the perfect balance in society where morals loosened just enough where there was still potential for one night stands, funny sloot stories, ect, but it hadn’t gotten to the complete degradation of society like we’re at now.

The movies were the best(goat comedies like Old school, American pie, anchorman, dodgeball, wedding crashers, etc)

The music was great - perfect balance of billboard hits which meant good party music, but it hadn’t yet gotten to be complete nonsense like it is now.

Tech was the perfect balance of giving us modern conveniences, but it hadn’t gotten so out of control yet that it took over everyone’s daily lives.

Other than the patriot act after 9/11, there wasn’t really the threat of compete government overreach like there is now. By the 2008 election the main issues were pork barrel spending and a slightly overexaggerated terrorist fear(McCain), or, “change”, which at the time just meant moving policies slightly to the left of moderate(Obama - but obviously this evolved a lot more rapidly over time).

No one will otherwise convince me that these years weren’t the peak of humanity

I wouldn't classify a time period where hijacked jets flew into tall buildings killing thousands as "peak humanity"

Obviously 9/11 was terrible. But that was a single day event, and at the end of the day, the rest of the era I’m speaking of went back to normal in their day to day lives pretty quickly after.

Pretty much every decade has had bad events: Iran hostage crisis, Vietnam war, 70’s serial killers, Pearl Harbor/ww2, 2010’s mass shootings and marathon bombing).

I’m referring more to the day to day life the average person lived.

I think it has all been downhill since the 1970s when the first sjw/feminist departments were established in Universities.

Only thing to contest is which decade had better entertainment.

Technology felt like it was improving in the early 2000s still and the internet was accessable but was still somewhat the wild west it was in the 90s. Its still improving of course, but nothing really comes out that makes you go "wow" anymore. And then you have the whole woke culture, identity politics and normalizing open degenerate behavior we have today which makes any past decade seem better - even the great depression seems like it would have some perks over being assaulted because you voted for the guy with the wrong letter after his name. I think the biggest thing that seems to be getting lost is optimism in the future.

Agree OP. Feel lucky to have lived in those years and able to enjoy them. Now we are literally on a rapidly sinking ship.

Nah, the 80's was peak humanity. But I do have a fondness for early 2000's because that's when my son was born.

I agree, I was in middle school during the early 2000's but I still have fond memories of that era and I'm glad I grew up during that time period

9/11 changed everything. Bush Jr talking about installing NWO openly etc. Started there. Then 2010-2012 was another leap in surveillance / authoritarian lifestyle with smartphone and communications tech. Now we're entering yet another new phase with QR codes and biometric monitoring, this will probably be fully installed by 2030. Each decade will leap humanity further in the abyss unless there will be a massive uprising imo.

80s was peak

Not sure about peak, but went to high school from 2000-2004 and it was awesome.

Playing football, parties most weekends, no cares but girls and friends, good music, etc. Was GOAT times.

And cell phones couldn't do anything except call and text... which you basically only used to coordinate plans with friends.

Social media ruined everything and I legit feel bad for kids who had/have to grow up in the shadow of social media.

The 70's seemed cool too.

Everything. No social media. People were social and spoke to each other instead of everyone having their faces in their phones 24/7. Kids played outside, teens hung out together instead of inside on a computer all day/night. Everything was better.

The thing with social media is you can always opt out. I have a couple friends that don't have any form of social media. They're pretty much married with kids tho. If I ever get into a long term relationship I might delete all my social media as well.

I think pre-tech was better, honestly.

All of this was in the early 2000’s too. I was in late elementary/middle school at the time, and all we did was play outside. There was no social media other than AIM which you just used to have stupid conversations with some girl you were crushing on. People used computers but mostly with friends and it was to watch an ebaumsworld video on a desktop through AOL dial up. It was the perfect balance of tech allowing for people to get exposed to some funny stuff on the internet, but it still hadn’t taken over peoples lives yet. The invention of the first iPhone in 2006 was honestly a big part of the decline. And then ******** getting big starting in 2007.
