Date night started off simple enough (very graphic hunting thrad)

...and then went horribly wrong.

Let's backtrack. Date night started off pretty simple. Installed a new haul up rope on the double stand to get both my bow and our cooler up there...brought up a 6 pack, some beers and these ****ing awesome Natty Lite sour seltzers and waited for deer to show up.



7 walked by very close to last light. My wife was watching them with her binos while I was ranging. When a shooter doe walked into range at 40 yards, I let her have it. My wife was able to watch this doe run and crash maybe 50 yd away. She was quartered slightly toward me. The arrow went in at about 20 degrees off broadside, stitching a lung a perforating her liver. The stomach wasn't touched, and the deer was down within a minute. Liver hit:



We hitched it up and towed it back to the house, and set to work butchering her. By midnight she was skinned, gutted, quartered, and processed. Help is definitely helpful.





This is deer #2 of the season. Deer 1 was a early archery buck from an adjacent state whose season starts before our season does here. So far, good luck this season. For anybody out there getting after it, good luck brahs.

Does it smell terrible? Or only if the GI tract is punctured?

Typically it just smells deer-ey. Not bad per se, just...like deer. Like most hunters I have accidentally punctured the GI tract and didn't really smell it to be honest.

If the animal has been sitting for a while, especially if it's warm out, you might end up with some slimy, smelly, potentially spoiled meat. Spoiled meat definitely has a very strong smell to it.

Why not both bro? When all your buddies are married with kids, it's nice to be able to get into the stand on any random weekend night, get a blowie in the stand while you're keeping lookout for deer.
