Miscers - What does social media do for you?

I'm the type of guy who pulls out his phone when he takes a chit. First app I go into, without even thinking about it, is Instagram.

Started self reflecting and realizing it does nothing for me ever but bring unhappiness. I have 100+ people following me, and I follow several hundred folks, 99.99% of which I met or knew YEARS ago and haven't talked to in years. If I make a post, I'd be lucky to get even 5 likes and 1 comment, srs. Used to post more often when I was younger and actually talked to people and would get 40+ likes and some comments. But anything I'd do now gets ignored unless it was extravagent, and I don't really do anything or live a life of extravagence/adventure.

When I open Instagram on the toilet, I'm looking at guys/girls I knew 10+ years ago, or maybe even more recent at like 5+ years ago, and I see how popular, cool, happy, successful they are. And I'm just like "well I suck."

Decided to actually uninstall the app. Why expose myself to it out of habit, if it's only a bad time?

Starting to think more about what I do, even little things like habitually opening an app, and then how it makes me feel (inadequate, lonely, boring, unsuccessful, etc.).

Maybe it's just because I don't really have any actual real friends tbh. IDK.

What does social media do for you guys? I think I might abandon all of it altogether and stick to some subreddits / Misc.

Surround yourself with positivity and drop all the negativity.

This is coming from somebody who was anti social media for year.

It simply exacerbates what is already there, giving it a platform, essentially.

I'm on IG and LinkedIn. Few K followers on IG because my photography is good, but I am focusing on other things.

I'm barely on the app anymore at this point. I just follow people that I admire and accounts that are in my industry(Programming/Network Engineering/Cyber). I spend maybe 5 minutes on the app. Idc what my friends are doing. I don't watch their stories. I post a story like every week or so about my weekly long run.

LinkedIn I fkn hate, but its necessary in life. Its like twitter for careers. People announcing every meaningless thing they are doing to better their careers or reposting a meaningless popular thought about entry level jobs not being entry level and fishing for likes. I just use it for recruiters to contact me and to browse jobs obv.

However, Social Media just holds up a magnifying glass to what is already happening in life. It doesnt make things worse or better. It just shows whats important to you at the time. If you don't care about social media, you don't need to delete it. You just won't use it. That's what happened to me
