Minnesota middle school removes F from its grading system due to systemic racism

Grading can be one of the largest areas in which systemic racism and inequities are perpetuated. Dr. Kazmierczak and [the school district] believe grades should be a measure of what a student knows and has mastered in a given course. Grading should not be a behavior punishment and should not be a measure of how well a student can survive stress at home,' the website reads.

When did they start grading based off behavior and stress at home?

I just finished my assignments and was subsequently graded for them. That was my experience. Anyone else?

Fuking ridiculous but nothing new. One of the poor performing schools in my area lowered the F from a 65% to a 50% way back when I was still attending a nearby school.

Behavior could mean acting out in class (cursing out the teacher, throwing poop at the chalkboard, being disruptive in other ways, tardiness, etc.). All children have to survive the stress at home, but is it unequally distributed across different races?

We used to have academic grades and then behavior grades when I was in school. That way your parents could see how you were doing academically and how you were behaving. If anything, they should do this system, but we all know why that won't be the case.

The flip side is I probably got quite a few B+'s turned into A-'s because I was good student who didn't act out or give my teachers a hard time for no reason. Probably just my white privilege showing instead.
