He's also good at quizzes.

He is is a good example of how being smarter than everyone doesn't make you righter than everyone, and that raw intelligence isn't a subsitute for expertise in a given field. I guess Langan would have a better idea of the mechanism of a given disease than I personally would, but I'd still take cancer advice from an oncologist.

EDIT

I think it was Malcolm Gladwell wrote an interesting chapter on this guy and basically said it shows that self actualisation is much better predicted by your parents than your talents. Someone with wealthy, well connected parents who send their kid to a good school, chances are pretty good that their 110 IQ child is going to forge a successful career. Langan has stratospheric talent and a crappy upbringing, now he's famous for being the smartest man in the world and nothing else.
