-OP and his wife decide to move home to Alabama to raise our daughter in a small town and be close to family.
-OP currently makes about 71k a year and is the sole provider. I work for the 10th biggest Ford Dealership in the Nation as an assistant parts manager.
-OP drives 1 hour one way to work everyday leaves at 645am gets home around 630pm sometimes later depending on the day...spends $300 a month just in gas.
-OP has the potential to make 100k - 130K a year soon within 2 years by moving to a wholesale position.
-Current job has some drawbacks...current management always asking to stay late or work extra without extra pay. I've worked 5/7 out of the last Saturdays and have not gotten extra for it.
-Seems like there always dangling that carrot in front of you.


-OP was just offered a job 8 minutes from home. Working for another dealer... 60k salary plus commission which according to there number would have averaged to 72k last year. I can help grow it and other doors could open.
-OP could even go home during the day for lunch...and would work from 730am until 530pm...plus no weekends.


I'm worried about changing because I'm trying to think of the future...If I hit that 100k to 130k a year mark how much will I be able to do for my Family..how better I can provide for them.

Tell the person who offered you the other job: "Match my current salary and I'll make the move ASAP". Don't EVER accept BS like "Oh the company can't do that" because it's horseshtt. I went from 68k to 100k years ago simply because I asked for it. I knew what the top end was supposed to be (~90k) but didn't give a fuk. Said give me that or I'm walking. Situation was a little different than yours but my point is that companies can always go higher regardless of all the BS they say.

Here’s the thing, that $100K+ gig is not guaranteed and sounds too good to be true — “within two years”. When you get that job, then move. I’d stick it out for now.

My current Salary is 60k also, the rest comes form bonuses and commission as well.

I have no doubt they pay would be equal...well really more than I make now.

We will never move closer to my current job..

Currently own 27 acres free and clear...living in a double wide and currently getting read to build our house.

thats 3.6k a year. Deduct that from what you actually make. Then also deduct anything like eating out for lunch because u cant go home to eat groceries.

then realize that hour drive both ways aint worth the extra money you'd make when you miss out on moments with your family

I suggest you move. But first, try to negotiate your salary. Be ready to provide reasons why you deserve the higher salary.

I was offered 95k in my current job and countered 104,500. They agreed to 100k (which is really what I was aiming for).

Beat me to it. Even if they match your current salary you'll come out ahead with a shorter commute....but don't tell them that. Reiterate that you want 10-15% MORE than what you're currently making.

Personally, i dont care how "chill" or easy a job is if im not getting paid a minimum of 15% more its not worth the hassle.
