Why do you think rock died?

And do you think it can ever come back? Or is rock permanently going the way of jazz/classical and guitar going the way of the violin? A niche genre and instrument.

Because the primary flavors that the public has been exposed to are completely watered down corporate created horse****. There are numerous sub-genres out there doing pretty well that you would generally categorize as 'rock' but you won't hear them on the radio. So the bottom line is that the media companies push what they can control. The pushed ****, and they can't control decent artists. So it's dead on those formats.

1) Kids today don't learn instruments anymore. They would rather write rap lyrics and make beats with a computer than actually learn things like guitar and bass and drums. In today's society, if you're not good at something almost right away then people don't want to do it, at least most people. So taking years to learn an instrument really well isn't a thing a lot of kids do. Also, practicing an instrument needs to be a passion.

2) Music has changed from bands getting together and rocking out to Tiktok and IG based crap where if you suck, you're going to get mocked and lose motivation really fast. Garage bands are basically a thing of the past and that's where a ton of major rock bands started.

3) Nobody wants to work their way up anymore. The days of playing in crappy clubs in a barely together rented van and driving all over the country playing gig after gig just doesn't happen anymore, and it's really hard to make ends meet so a lot of aspiring artists simply can't afford to not make money for two years until a major deal hits. Also, you can't make money with music anymore because it is all based on downloads, not organic record sales.

Has to do with the subject matter IMO. Any lyrical topic above 80 IQ is bad for record sales. Not to say there isn’t low IQ rock/metal.

Another nail in the coffin of America.

The genre is still there but simply not promoted.

It's simply the mass media culture that changed. Now a days nothing besides trashy rap and pop gets played.
