bicycling crew checking in
i was an occasional rider, but i got my bike tuned up about 3 weeks ago and it rides so smooth now i'm riding at a steady 12-14 mph average now. Feels good, leg gains are noticable, abs are starting to show, doesn't even feel like a workout, clears your head, flying by cars stuck in traffic, hitting up new trails, not burning gas to go to the gym or a quick store run, ...... just overall winning

Several triathletes at the shop i used to work at bought 20" bmx bikes to train for sprints.
Ded fukin srs.
If you cycle more than 100 miles/ week id recommend getting a professional fit.
Seat height/tilt/back-forward position you can do 80% by yourself, but getting it 100% perfect along with cleat position makes a huuuuuge difference

What speed bikes you guys recommend?

If you are just going to be doing mainly distance/flat riding with not many hills, you wouldn't need as many gears for the different hill grades. I could get away with three for the type of riding I do if on a road bike. If I rode on the streets around here all the time I would need a lot more due to how many hills there are of different lengths and grades.
Mountain bikes are a different story but also depends on the riding you do. Single track, not as many. Cross country mountain treks, a LOT more for the different terrains and hills.

Unless you are sprinting or just climbing all day you are not building muscle.
Most serious riders are sub 150lbs and sticks.
If you want to build muscle including back and arms mountain bike. ( I single speed mountain bike and that is the most upper body you will get on a bike)
I have done some low level amateur road races with I was 200lbs (high 180s now) and they grouped up as "Clydesdales" because its impossible to compete with a 150lb person in a road race due the the amount of power output you need to overcome the weight
