Forget Squid Game - If you're gonna watch foreign drama, I got some suggestions for u
If some of you guys jumped on the squid game hype, there's some better chit out there for you to enjoy. Obviously you should watch with subtitles. Can't fathom anyone watching dubbed.
1) Money Heist (La Casa De Papel)

This show is up there with the greats. If you enjoyed Breaking Bad, Wire, Sopranos, Mad Men, then this is of the same quality. I've been telling people that it and Better Call Saul are the only "peak tv" shows still on. Some info but not really spoilers:
- First two seasons take place over an 8 day period
- Next three seasons all take place over like a single 7 day period
So the bulk of the show is stuff happening in real time. The best thing is that the characters behave realistically. Like I always appreciated how on the Sopranos, both Meadow and AJ would act the way spoiled idiots would realistically act. Likewise, it's established that most of the people involved in pulling off the heists are idiots, but one or two are giga-brain geniuses. So the dynamic goes from there.
2) Hernan

The most expensive show ever made in Latin America. I had to "sail the high seas" to watch it in the USA, as Amazon Prime only has it outside of this country (at least at the time I was watching it).
- While progressing the overall plot, each episode focuses on the life & perspective of a different person
- Literally the most realistic depiction of Tenochtitlan ever shown
- Both Mayan and Aztec languages are also spoken, rather than just Spanish. So basically their equivalent to Apocalypto
- The main female lead is either a 10/10 or a 1/10 depending on your tastes. She shows bobs regardless

3) Romulus

This was on Sky Italia - dunno if it ever made it onto any usa streaming service, so it's available from the buccaneer cove as well.
- Dunno if they're speaking Latin or Italian
- It's about the warring tribes in Italy and how one eventually founds Rome
- The main female lead looked too much like Quagmire. But other than that, it's solid

Never seen Hernan or Romulus.

It legit felt like a condensed Game of Thrones. It's only 9 episodes, although supposedly they're going to do a second season.

See I'm not sure if to take you srs op. I felt squid game was meh.. Like a 6 to 6.5 at best but I also watched the first episode of Money Heist and while I can't remember it now, I certainly remembered seeing a bunch of stupid moments that were so contrived and made no sense that I couldn't continue.
I don't know if I have the willpower to give it another chance and see if it gets better but if anyone else here wants to see an actual awesome show here's 3 options: Mr. Robot, The Expanse and ZeroZeroZero on Prime. Top tier TV.

Looks pretty good
A young bull and an old bull were standing atop a hill looking at a bunch of heifers in a field below.
The young bull says "Let's run down this hill and fuk one of those heifers."
The old bull replies "No. Let's walk down there, and fuk them all."

@LurkoLantern, I just couldn't get over that first episode back then. Maybe I could turn off my brain and give it another go. Def check out Mr Robot though, a show about a godlike hacker who hates clown world and wants to use his skill to stop it. Brilliantly written with amazing characters whose motivations and actions make sense.

Thanks for the suggestions brah, can confirm Money Heist was excellent. Here's some other ideas:
Gomorrah (Italian) - Best Crime/Drug show I have ever seen, similar to The Wire but set in Italy
ZeroZeroZero - Spanish Crime/Drug show
Fauda (Hebrew/Arabic) - Counter-terrorists vs terrorists kinda show, set in Israel and Palestine
Giri/Haji (Japanese/British) - Japanese police officer goes to London to find his brother who murdered the nephew of a yakuza member
Kingdom (Korean) - Korean Zombie show set in medieval times
Barbarians (Germanic/Roman) - great show where Romans trying to conquer Germania
Sacred Games (Hindi) - great show about the rise of a crimelord in India and the police officer trying to stop him
Lupin (French) - French master con artist trying to avenge his father's death
Norsemen (Norwegian) - Comedy which is a satire of the usual Viking TV shows
All of these were fantastic, like 8/10-10/10 for me each. It's great watching international shows because it feels like you're in another world, it's fascinating to see the other cultures and how they are both similar and different to our own. The storytelling, acting and cinematography in all of these shows are top notch and rival some of the American productions, if not better than most.

It's been mentioned in this thread, but can anyone give more info on ZeroZeroZero? Is it worth it to watch it through to the end? I've thought about watching that show after I finish Squid Game. Money Heist is also on my list.

netflix has some good korean movies (the wailing, Ashin of the north, train to busan, etc.), but the tv shows have been a swing and miss for me.

Fuark - yeah I probably could have included Kingdom in my original post. Right now it's only 2 seasons and a made-for-netflix movie, and I'd heard they're gonna make two parallel series for season 3.
Only thing that drove me nuts was the lulzy way the zombies would run. No arm movement. So it's supposed to be a historical horror genre, but I always found that unintentionally hilarious

Really enjoyed the first season of Money Heist but feel like it has jumped the shark now. I haven't watched the newest season.
Never heard of Hernan or Romulus tho, will check them out.
Some other really good suggestions in here I can vouch for - Dark, Babylon Berlin, Barbarians, ZeroZeroZero.
My contribution:
Generation War. A miniseries about WW2 told thru the eyes of 5 German friends

If it was a little less animey and was based in real life rather than some alternate Japan it would be 11/10 show

I vote for most extreme elimination challenge. The depth of story and insights into their contestants inner struggles while being presented with insurmountable odds really sets the English version with Vic Romano and Kenny Blankenship replacing the characters of count Takeshi and flunky. (Original version is named takeshi castle or some gay chit)
Fuark guys the drama in this one.
