Nothing like a good cardio workout

It just feels right

I can’t go more than a week maximum without needed to have a really good hour long sweaty heart pumping cardio workout (srs)

For lifters, I think cardio like combat style cardio (heavy bag, jump rope, etc) is not only functional but an amazing workout and not boring.

You can tell the type of people who don't do cardio because they're the type that usually takes 5 fukin minutes in between sets when doing curls.

Cardio raises your metabolism and of course a ton of other benefits, but it's not necessary to lose weight. Makes it faster though.

I take holistic approach to fitness.

Having a great diet is the MOST important factor, however the training and cardio is what completes it.

Try 15 hrs of cardio per week and tell me you won't get shredded. It's about nutrition if you want to be a gym nerd with no life. It's about cardio if you want to be shredded and go out for a bender on Saturday, all you can eat tacos Tuesday, and ice cream every night.

Running 5 miles burns about less than 800 calories.....

That’s one of the most brutal pills to swallow. You’d be better off just skipping a meal.

Although the cardio benefits of running are still great.

The problem is that people look at it as a one off calculation like that, as if it happens in a vacuum.

But if you regularly run 5 miles your body changes. Your appetite changes, your metabolism changes. You become a completely different person physically and that person is a hell of a lot leaner than the one who lives a sedentary life trying to restrict what they eat.

I do 1-1.5 hours of walking daily.

If i was to not do this i'd get fat in 2 weeks or so.

Now that i think about it, i cant remember the last time i didn't walk.

Feels weird to not leave the house like that.

The effects of aerobic exercise go far beyond a simple equation of calories burned during the exercise.

It creates an entire cascade of positive effects on the body.

This is only a partial but still very extensive list -

Wonder why a nutritionist would say this. Is chemo also overrated when you can adjust your macros?

Aerobic exercise is very healthy.

The amount of calories burned during cardio is dependent upon how good of shape you are in. For example: If you run 9 min / mile at 150 watts you burn way less calories over time because your muscles are weak and can't push any harder even if your heartrate is maxed out. If you run 5 min / mile at 300 watts you burn double the calories over time no matter what your heartrate is. I've had cycling sessions where I've burned over a 1000 calories in under an hour purely do to being in good shape.

So next time don't complain about only burning x calories while doing cardio and get in better shape so you can burn more calories faster.

The purpose of cardio is not weight loss, it's to improve your 'fitness', i.e. aerobic or anaerobic work capacity.
