I had to look it up - I started taking Animal Flex this summer, which has both of those ingredients.

I don't know if it is those two ingredients specifically or something else, but I am 43 and before I started taking it, my body used to be so stiff in the morning when I woke up I used to have to sit on the edge of my bed, lean forward and place my hands on the wall and then basically walk myself up to standing. I also used to have to take my stairs one at a time on the way down - like left foot down then right foot to the same step. then left foot down and right foot to follow. Now that wasn't strictly because I was stiff but my stairs are steeper and narrower than I would prefer so before I loosened up I was legit nervous about losing my balance.

After about a month of consistently taking the Animal Flex I saw marked improvement and now I am at the point of being able to stand right when I wake up, no wall lean necessary, same with the stairs.

I always like the Animal products I used before and I wanted a joint supplement so I tried that because ...well I didn't do any research - I am sure they are charging me for an excessive amount of all the ingredients and probably a bunch I don't need but it was very easy for me and it works so I'm gonna keep using it.

Osteo Bi-Flex. Helped me a lot. Joints feel better at 42 than 32, but I am more friendly to them as far as lifting.

Don't expect to feel anything for a good 7-10 months though.

Whether placebo or otherwise it works for some. Possible some sort of antiinflammatory pathway.

From a mechanism of action/pharmacology point of view it doesn’t seem to have any viable use in terms of repairing/stabilizing knee cartilage.

OA is mostly due to decreased cartilage leading to joint space narrowing and some bone alterations. Taking components of this won’t rebuild. That’s like telling someone who’s balding to grind up some hair and drink it thinking it’ll help.

The argument is that the supplements help "lube" up these areas, not making the grinding bone to bone/cartilage not be as rough

OP is a wizard. Just received both of mine today. Will take 1,500 mg of glucosamine and 1,200 mg of chondroitin. I'm desperate due to painful chondromalacia patellae so I am willing to try it all

I don't want to start with those yet. I am too young and still try to work around it.

If this **** even helps 2% it's worth it in my case.

Aren't there a couple of studies that indeed says there is some slight effect?

44, I had tons of trouble moving in the morning. My knees sounded like smashing potato chips my ankles were gone too.

Glucosamine and chondroitin never helped but Krill oil did. 2 grams in the am and 2 at night. I feel 10 years younger. The cheap stuff from a box store for $15 works fine.

Pros
I don't have crunchy noises anymore.
Doesn't give you fish oil burps.

Pro/con
My BP went down and could go too low.

Near worthless anecdotal internet endorsement for Krill oil over the other stuff.

Same. Took it for a while and felt nothing. My low back is in shambles right now. Dicloflenac sodium works better for me. Just rub it on and its mild-moderately effective

Yeah it works but you can only have so much corticosteroids in a year's time or else it will leach the calcium from your bones. Say, you've had a few rounds of injections or a steroid pack for the inflammation and then your get Covid. Well, you cant have a steroid pack for that because its too soon or you've had all you can have for the year. I'm sure there is an alternative route but you just dont want to exhaust your primarygo-tofor SO MANY CONDITIONS which is what a corticosteroids are

Side no though. Some AAS' are approved to combat osteoporosis so there is that. lol

Maybe over 5 years ago was when I started taking glucosamine. Wasn't really over weight, but no where near the shape I am now. Had lower back pain and just standing up from sitting on the ground was a 3+ step process involving lower back pain. I don't think the glucosamine helped with anything. Noticed no difference other than I was continuing to get in better and better shape. Stopped taking it after a year and continued getting in better shape. No lower back pain, stand up easily. If anything, I'd recommend taking collagen.

Lidocaine for the win

In the long run Corticosteroid injections break down the tissue faster and make it worse.

Have you tried doing a nerve block surgery?

Changing life style helped me the most.

No high heels, ever.

Avoiding exercises that mess with it or activities

Cutting out alcohol/smoking never smoked/less energy drinks more water/avoiding supplements that dry you out

If over weight losing weight can help

Enough sleep/better mattress

Avoiding sitting or standing in one position too long

Weight lifting/physical therapy/strengthening the muscle around joint

No super tight jeans

No knee selves these kill my knees

Avoiding dangerous activities were I could injury something else that’s just gunna give me more arthritis

Surgery helped a lot, metal knee and foot crew

I took Krill oil for almost a year recently, but I did not seem to have any effect on my pain unfortunently.

That's why I didn't bother buying a new one.
