He went on to say that the chop is "the least of our problems," compared to crime and poverty in the indigenous community, as if getting rid of the chop and obviously deeper, more important issues are somehow mutually exclusive. This was the same Richard Sneed who, when asked by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution about the chop in October 2019, before developing a more robust partnership with the Braves, said: "That's just so stereotypical, like old-school Hollywood.

Without getting too far into a battle of right or wrong, and, quite frankly, in 2021, people of color are tired of having to explain how things like representation correlate to violence and harm in communities. Basically, when people are caricatured routinely, it’s a form of violence that manifests itself in other ways that go far beyond dignity.

Short version: Everyone heard about Gabby Petito, the young white woman who went missing in a national park in Wyoming last month. You probably don’t know that more than 700 Indigenous people went missing in that very state over the last 10 years. A report from the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Task Force in Wyoming (think about the fact that that’s even a thing) says that 85% were kids, and 57% were female.

There’s a direct correlation between racist imagery and real-life violence.

The US is mostly still a great country. I know quite a few natives. I’m married to one (she’s Navajo and Hispanic), her family, my step dad is Catawba Indian, and have a few friends that I knew from his tribe growing up (my first job was on his reservation doing landscaping).

The opinion in the native community on Native American names and images used in sports and butter spread seems to go right along with party lines.

My point: the lefty natives are doing as they’re told by the big city Dems. All of the right wing ones couldn’t care less about the names or they like them. My step dad is a huge Braves fan and has been pissed at this liberal sh!t about the moniker as long as I’ve known him.

Almost threw up after seeing this on ESPN, came to MISC, pleasantly surprised to see this. Imagine the type of person that could sit down to write that garbage and be proud of themselves after. This is as low as it gets for ESPN for putting this on the front page. Absolutely pathetic all around.
