The Falling elevator nightmare
Met a guy last week in a wheelchair. Older gentlemen, super nice. Was an old friend of a friend of mine that I had never met before.
After they chatted, he walked wheeled himself away and she told me that he was in an elevator that broke and fell several stories! Broke both his legs and will never be able to walk well again.
Bros/bras, what in the actual f***? I always thought that chit just doesn’t happen. BRB, legs gonna be tree trunks from taking the stairs regardless how many floors I have to climb now.
What other freak accidents have y’all had experiences with?

It's a much cheaper way to experience zero gravity than paying the tech nerds for a seat.

Wow that's terrible. I thought elevators had emergency brakes or something that prevented free fall if the cable were to snap?

I hear things like this happen almost only in lower class social situations.

Sounds like a lie. There are many safeguards in place to prevent that from happening in developed countries.

happened to me few years ago
was going from 8th to ground floor, and somewhere in the middle the elevator just started falling.. not full gravity speed, but faster than it would normally..
then it hit the bottom (there was only 1 floor below the ground). it was a pretty loud bang, but the impact we felt wasnt that strong and nobody was hurt.. i believe most elevators have a safety spring at the bottom.

Growing up my family used to live in the 13th floor srs this was back in 1995 I had no idea 13 was a superstitions number.
I thought I would get bullied at school, but my friends thought it was cool as hell. When I was 13 my parents always told me on the weekends "When we are at work do not leave the apartment you hear!"
Of course in my mind I thought ehhh let me go to the elevator. "Whats the worst that could happen??

elevator maintenance is supposedly a sweet gig. but as i've said before, seems like a lot of responsibility. no idea the prevalence of mishaps though
i think they do it in steps. like building the outside shell and the shaft is a different process to the interior portion. then you got motors and electric, etc.
ive seen that one video in ny i think where some dudes head gets chopped off. remember the woman was like walking by or toward it and had to immediately turn away

Very rare and even if it happened to you, chances are it would be so fast you wouldn't be able to process it as it happened and would be dead before you really knew what was going on.
