Your thoughts on the student debt fiasco?
I personally have zero debt and do not feel like paying more taxes to make up for some elses mistake. The reason we have the student debt crisis is because of the government itself. The government got involved and started handing out student loans to anyone who had a pulse. This caused the colleges to jack up their price cause the government was paying the tab. This resulted in unqualified student coming into college and majoring in useless garbage such as liberal arts which = no jobs. No jobs but ton of debt now results in these students calling for socialism and garbage ideologies like that. To fix this, the government needs to stop handing out loans which will force colleges to go back to accepting students based on merit only. This will decrease the supply of student which will result in them getting jobs faster and being filled with more competent people. The people who dont qualify can end up working at sturbucks (where they would have ended up anyways but without the debt) or they can get into a trade (plumbing, electricity, xray technician) which will result in a great living as well.

I didn't give these loans out. I didn't take any of these loans. Not my fault, not my responsibility, NOT MY PROBLEM. However the politicians want to make it my problem.

Here's my thoughts:
- College costs too much because of the loans, colleges have jacked up their prices and spend more on admins, campus amenities etc to attract students.
- Students are in a race to the bottom with each other, as long as other students are willing to take out loans, they have to as well
- To properly fix this, the government needs to cap the amount of loans and perhaps prohibit private loans. Would be political suicide so its unlikely this will ever be fixed
- Students who take out large loans and end up dropping out or graduated with useless degrees are basically a modern day serf, permanently owing a fraction of their income for life
On loan forgiveness:
- If student loans were forgiven, current day borrowers would suddenly have more spending power overnight
- This spending power would instantly inflate housing prices, car prices, etc
- Would help borrowers at the expense of non borrowers
- People would have likely made different decisions in the past with knowledge of todays forgiveness. People who didn't go to school due to high costs, people who paid off their loans, etc
In summary
- Loans need to be tapered down over time to control college costs
- But I am adamantly against any kind of loan forgiveness, its immoral for reasons listed above
