one of the best gaming years in history

was it Grim Fandango, Resident Evil 2 or perhaps Metal Gear Solid?

Unreal tournament came out in 99 and it was far and above the best FPS experience of that era.

Also Everquest was 1999 which was basically the take off of mainstream mmorpg.
