Because Asians (mostly indians and Chinese but others are part of tech culture as well) immigrated here due to being able to live among their own people

Asians value a strong education and have high expectations for themselves if they don't go in a downward spiral from daddy issues

They (Indians / Asians)have their place in tech culture in the Bay Area for sure, but a lot of those tech companies are founded by white people also

It's mostly Berkeley when it comes to the foundation of Silicon Valley. That was pretty much the original big high-tech research school.

Berkeley is full of theory and not practical coding.

That's true.

Most industries hire close by, and do so because they have close relationships with the schools. I've seen that directly in Aerospace.

reason being that ibm that was once the biggest tech co moved to the valley decades ago and then other companies started to move in. rather than poach talent from across the country in florida or ne, tech leaders felt concentrating it in the surrounding area improves the talent pool.

if you want to work in big tech its the only place to be. maybe austin is catching up and ny always big but not only tech. remote opportunities certainly encouraging too tho im taking advantage of this myself.

Berkeley basically helped invent the internet, they were working with the government during it's creation, Berkeley tech labs were a noteworthy location for most internet related development.

Tl;dr tech companies have been pushing people to get into the industry so they could drive down wages. Well wages have kept going up (maybe not as much as they would have) but CS entry level market is flooded atm.

I'd say its pretty hard realistically since the bar keeps raising. And you have a 0% chance of getting a job as a self taught programmer imo...


Maybe 1 out of 10000 people can do the self taught route and these people are either a female POC (easy hire) or have been coding since they were 10

wide open west mentality might be the actual underlying reason....obvs before Cali became cuck central.

storytime: i remember as a kid going to an Olive Garden or something in the bay area not SF when I was a kid. Never have I seen more porsche 911s...it was way before meetups it was just an average saturday night parking lot.

shoulda known right then to get into tech but I was like 9 years old.
