on BBB and "taxing the rich"

When politicians talk about "taxing the rich", it always sounds great. Make the ultra wealthy people like bezos and gates pay for some of societys worst problems. Since the money isn't coming from the general taxpayer, it seems to come at no cost to the middle class! Win/win for everyone (except for the wealthy but who cares about them) right?

Only problem, what politicians say and what they do are often in opposites.

For example, the BBB bill removes the backdoor roth, effectively a tax on a certain segment of the middle class population (rich people like bezos aren't materially affected by this, if they even use this at all). So why is this provision in the BBB bill at all? Because the middle class is always stuck with the bill

You'll never hear a politician talk about removing the "step up basis" which is arguable an unfair tax treatment enjoyed exclusively by the ultra wealthy.

Even if politicians actually put forth bills to "tax the rich" it still wouldn't work the way you want. Even though no new money is being created, they are likely taxing away money that was otherwise not in circulation. Taxing and spending this money is effectively putting new money in circulation, therefore just yielding more inflation as if the govt just printed it.

Even if politicians taxed the rich and inflation were not a concern, why do we think the government can manage capital investments better than America's top companies? There's another name for this kind of economy, based on a "central planner" and they never work

Right, somehow the rich get around being taxed more and/or they make even more wealth on what that money is being spent on. Someohow, the working man always ends up paying the bills. It's the working class that has been more screwed than any other group, and that's who Biden is targeting. He's trying to get after small business owners and people doing side hustles.

The problem with a democracy is nobody will ever not vote themselves some more money

So the bottom 51% will always eat the 49%, just like asking two wolves and a sheep "what's for dinner?"

Thankfully we don't have a direct democracy, and the people don't directly get what they vote for
