Why are there no calls to outlaw gain of function research?

Its strange we dont hear much at all about placing a ban on this.

Saying oh well it will help scientist learn things so its worth the risk is a poor argument but the debate isnt even being had in the first place.

We place restrictions on research for ethics and/or safety reasons all the time.

We used to just blow up islands with nuclear weaonons until they made a truce to only do underground testing.

We place limits on what we test on humans and so most studies are done on animals and just guessing what the effects on humans would be.

We place limits on what is tested on animals.

You got people who freak out if their shampoo was tested on animals but have no concern that scientist are modifying viruses to be more harmful and/or contagious. U wut mate?

I’m pretty sure that it’s already banned. It was part of the Geneva convention. This is why Fauci is adamant that they are innocent. If found guilty, he could be put to death for crimes against humanity. Srs
One party system; Most Republicans are Democrats, but no Democrats are Republicans.
Hayek and Mises were right; they're all socialists.

That's a pretty loose reading of the Biological Weapons Convention. You'd have to show that the coof was specifically developed as a weapon rather than just to experiment on rapidly transmissible SARS viruses.

I'm not saying it wasn't and I'm not saying you're wrong, but when phucking Fauci sits there in front of the US Congress-- our supposed elected representatives who are meant to defend our interests-- and says, "well yeah we were studying the virus's ability to gain functions but it wasn't Gain of Funtion Research because of this document that I rewrote before beginning these experiments which redefines GOFR to specifically exclude that exact thing," and they all sit there (with the exception of Rand Paul) and nod their bovine heads and expect the people to just swallow that...

Well let's just saw I doubt that it would matter even if you could prove all that.
