Dear Diary

But I know I’m just going to **** it up because I have the absolute worst stage fright. I can already feel the sweating, shaking and stammering now. lol @ me

I've only been taking lessons for four years so I'm not going to be playing anything spectacular just Waltz by Brahms in Suzuki book II…basically something that kids play within 6 weeks of picking up a violin.

I'm working on that. My teacher has laid out a practice guild she wants me to follow.

So, okay, I have to run, squat and do push ups until my heart is racing then blast Rammstein or something while practicing the piece in very small chunks. Since I can't get my stage fright under control I have to learn how to play with it.

I have till Dec 4 to get this **** worked out

Sure but you won't know if you're playing it well or playing absolute chite because your violin is being drowned out. So what happens when you practice that way and the time comes for a real performance and you don't know how to play it in silence because you're waiting for DU HAST MICH to be thumping in the background.

My suggestion is to choose something easy, perfect it, and keep playing it over and over until it's so burned into your muscle memory you could play it in the middle of a hurricane.

Yeah my song is so lame I can’t stand it. I didn’t get to pick the song. I told my instructor I was not looking forward to Waltz when we first started the workbook I’m in. That’s why she chose it for me I’m sure -_-

I love that song but it’s definitely too advanced for me if you noticed her hand position towards the end of the song she moves closer to the violin. That’s called 3rd position I’m still playing in 1st position that’s close to the scroll. I’ll be playing in 3rd position in a year or so.

I know exactly how my violin sounds, the tone, by the placement of my finger and the weight I put on the bow using my pinky, but I understood what you’re getting at.


When I play something repetitively from start to finish the only thing I really do is solidify it into muscle memory and that’s the first one to dip on me during a performance. I’ve been there a few times.


This particular method—I’m only using it for this song and its only one small piece of the puzzle. In general I have to learn a song several different ways. Sing it, clap it, say the notes name, say the finger number all while making sure to stay in time with the metronome. Then there are the dynamic marks and accidentals to take into consideration.

I bombed.

I had two memory slips the first was so bad the Masterclass Instructor had to slowly tip toe on stage to show me the sheet music. Then while he was asking me questions I just stood there completely mute for a solid minute at least before I could croak out a single syllable.



My Piano accompanists playing in a loop while I stand there lost —>
