Why isn't there more support given to students who pursue a career in medicine?

These students usually end up being in debt for the first decade of their professional career

More doctors who can provide great healthcare to those in need is in high demand

To attract extremely high-risk people considered best suited for the job. Also people from wealthy backgrounds that can have a fall back if it doesn't work. Not creative problem solvers, not caring people, high-risk callous people. Welcome to America.

Maybe more prolific grants or something that specifically pays for tuition. Even if these students fail, they end up having some valuable classes learned under their belt. It seems like there should be more people in healthcare. I was at a hospital in October, a really good one, but it was still kinda fuked how it operated at times. There could definitely be more doctors and nurses on deck and it would make a tremendous difference. But more doctors in general would be a positive thing to increase

I’m curious as well. Not to be inflammatory, but it’s nice to see a problem outlined with some examples and facts, which can open up a discussion of solutions. Otherwise, we just argue over all of the problems without being constructive.

Healthcare isn’t as difficult to enter as many would think. Many large facilities have incentives for low level employees to go back to college and graduate, like tech or LPN, then the facility will help them pay off a large percentage of the student debt AND hire them full time in their new role.

Tech schools are pretty cheap and easy to get through. This is literally the path I took and have no debt left. There are lots of options and opportunities, but the issue is individuals taking advantage of those opportunities.

Did you know that healthcare is the fastest growing career of blacks for this reason?? This is the great thing about the free market. Tax money not required!!
