we've all heard about pearl harbor and RIP to all US soldiers who got ambushed but just looking at the other side of the coin. These were some badass mofos getting in those planes knowing full well they were going to die a fiery death. ultimate sacrifice for your country.

Kamikaze pilots were often new recruits or replacements who weren’t even pilots, but they were given enough training to take off (didn’t even bother teaching them how to land for obvious reasons), and they were escorted by fighters to make sure they didn’t divert, or evacuate, or surrender. They’d be shot down if they tried of course.
By the time they were unescorted they were already in range of enemy weapons. They had no choice in the matter (and were often drugged or drunk before the flight).
Nothing honorable or admirable about this barbarism at all.

I read that there was a German suicide squad that was hastily created towards the end of the war. They would deliberately ram their aircraft into oncoming bombers.

It was stupid. With the US, pilots would fly missions, after so many missions they became instructors and taught classes.
Vs a country like Japan, where they would keep doing missions until they died.
And Kamikazes were pretty much an act of desperation.

They were brainwashed and suckered into believing they were going to a special place. A young healthy kid getting into a perfectly viable aircraft and purposely crashing it is not a natural or sane act. Young healthy kids can also be really fukking stupid, and their "spiritual" superiors knew this.

The idea of fighting until the last man and suicide attacks sounds hardcore but in all reality it's just a waste. In the battle of Iwo Jima, 90% of USMC casualties came on the first few days of fighting. Once the foothold was made, there was no way the Japanese were going to get them off the island. The airstrip was fully operatinal. At this point, about 70-80% of the Japanese soldiers were still alive but all they could do is basically harass the US. US military just combed over every inch of soil and killed almost all of the Japanese soldiers, many of them were hiding in the caves and fires were built taking the oxygen out of the caves and from there explosives were used to collapse the entrances and about 3000 are still in the caves to this day, dead of course, but what a horrible way to go. Japan knew they had already lost the war, but they were trying to negotiate a more favorable surrender deal. Considering they didn't get split in two like Germany where half their country would be under control of the USSR, maybe it was worth it.

Can you imagine how fuking scary that would be?
Knowing these guys are unloading on you, and then just ramming their aircraft onto the ship.
Fuk. War is truly messed up
